The Box
Posted 8/16/14 , edited 8/16/14

So i wasn't the only one who saw the movie then. Whenever I bring it up people looked puzzled. At least they haven't heard of it, saves them the time and trouble. I hated that movie and the thing is it had potential to be interesting. Though it shot itself in the foot with the cheapest of all twists. Of all the things they could have gone with they went with that. I'm not against that type of twist, but it's got to make sense.
I wouldn't open the box because well with knowing the twist of the movie and just because I have a very guilty conscience so yeah knowing I was the cause of some guy's death would drive me insane.

So I'm kinda bored and really thought this through, but anyways...

In reality I would probably laugh in the man's face and call him a liar... but let's assume he's telling the truth, and I believe him. Then I would take the box, but just never open it. That way no one dies, right? And why would he come to me, a one in ~six billion roll of the dice btw, of all people?

Let's assume I'm not the only one to take "the box test" and it will be administered exactly once to everyone around the world at some point in their life... well, the 100M "prize" for opening it has to come from somewhere, right? Currency just doesn't magically appear out of nowhere and have the same buying power and as currency already in circulation. I forgot what the term for it is (lol) but I do know that if you flood an economy with a shit ton of unbacked paper money and expect the citizens to have the same buying power... you're in for a rude awakening The point is if the test goes on indefinitely and everyone starts opening the box... lots of people will die for virtually no reason. In this much more entertaining scenario, opening the box for a short-term solution of 100M is much more dire than just "one random person dies."

Or you can consider the other end of the spectrum... the box test is administered once, and only once, to one randomly selected person. Only one person dies, and it's more likely that the 100M prize is actually backed-by-gold standard hard currency. Same logic applies if the test is administered x number of times and each time the currency is pulled from a pool of legit money (whether a savings account or whatever) so that it does not go on forever... In any case, if it were me, that box would sit... and it would sit... unopened forever. lol.

Don't get me wrong, it would be really nice to have that much money... but I don't think it's worth killing a random stranger for. I think there's much more satisfaction in knowing you've earned it, as impossible as it would be to do if you're as broke as I am. lol

I will never kill for money. I don't want to ruin my karma for something inherently worthless.

How do I even know there's money in the box? I smell a scam.

I grew up in a single parent family and am a first gen kid.
When it comes down to it, I want to be happy in my own home that I worked and paid for myself. I want to be happy knowing that I lived a good life, went through struggles, got through them, and am happy with my life. Content comes from within. 100million dollars seem nice but I rather work my life to know I went through it.
Besides, how would you explain the money to your children?

It sounds like the money is poisoned.

I would and wouldn't open the box.
1: I would open the box because you could kill a wanted Murder or someone that deserves to die or something.
2:I wouldn't open it because there's a chance to kill your family by accident or someone you care about.
My Answer is both sides. I think
