Definitely not. They just don't allow it so you'll have no choice but to purchase their overpriced snacks.

I bring a bag of twizzlers every time I go to watch movies, so it's perfectly fine.

They encourage me bringing my own snacks, and loathe when I eat their employees. Humph. I'm willing to pay the over inflated price for that intern's organs, but noooooo.

Here's a basic explanation why many cinemas overcharge the cost of food.

Many cases the Studios themselves set the prices of the tickets & quite often the cinemas barely get any return with 99% of the profits goes to the studios themselves at times.
So most of the profit margins that the cinema's make are food & drinks.

With how much it cost to run the equipment many times they are forced to overcharge on the food especially for many of the smaller independent cinemas.

So in the long run it's the foodstuff that they sell that makes the cinema's run while the tickets that make the studios run.

So in short while tempting to cut the cost down by bringing your own food in, yet it also the reason that the cinemas are able to keep going.

I personally don't mind paying the price for a large nacho/soda combo at my local theater (11 bucks and will last through a 2 hour movie) but i don't fault people for sneaking in food as expensive as theater snacks are.

That doesn't seem too bad. How much are the tickets?

$8.50 afternoon matinee price, $10.00 for after 7pm

That is cheap?

People actually go to the movies still? :O

I kid. Last time I went to the theater was a few years ago. I suppose I was lucky because the theater I went to actually sold their items at normal prices.

$2 for a large soda, $1.50 for candy, $2 for popcorn

It's been about twelve years (arguably more) since I've seen prices that low.

Probably. Doubt they really care. I always want popcorn though. I love popcorn. I make it stove-top at home and can't go back to microwave.

Usually I catch a $7 matinee and get a $12 large popcorn/soda combo. I always get at least one refill, even if i'm on the way out and sometimes already full.

My cousin is a manager at a movie theater and he lets me blatantly walk in with a 32 oz gas station fountain drink. Nobody working in the theater really cares.

I usually only bring my own candy and buy my drink and popcorn from the theater. As richkawaiipikachu explained above, it's how theaters make their profits and that's why the prices are so high. I'd feel guilty if I didn't buy at least something since I go see movies in a theater so rarely anyway. I can't really blame others for bringing their own food though, especially if they go to movies more often.
