If I could I would quote everyone in the forum, because there is a very simple answer to the question;

"Why the hell would I pay so much for a bag of skittles?"

But, alas, I cannot, because that would be tedious, and I am lazy...

TLDR explanation below

Basically, what Im getting at is that if theaters didnt make money from selling concessions, they wouldnt exist at all and then nobody would be able to watch movies on the big screen. This is also why more and more theaters are trying to implement a "watch and dine" theme (e.g. Studio Movie Grill, Hollywood Palms, AMC, etc).

If you want proof, look it up yourself I guess...

Last time I went they charged me $4.00 for 20oz of water. Wrong or not, I'll bring my own water next time...

I do it, but lately I just eat before I get to the theater. So I'm not hungry while watching the movie.

Nope , not at AMC, I bought snacks from the store at the mall and I ate them while watching The Hobbit.

Oh and it's best to NOT DRINK WATER before a movie.

I don't feel bad at all because it's them scamming you for over priced snacks.

First, it is wrong to come to movie theater in the first place.
Maximum that you are allowed to do is come there, buy their overpriced food, then go back and eat it at home (or on the streets)
But nevermind.

It should be ok if you come there when theater is closed / at night - when no movies are going.
It's also alright if you don't eat the food that you brought with you. But leave it there before you leave.

However, you can still be arrested for possession of food, so you might just as well do eat (because you'll be framed as if you did anyway).
It's important to remember that movie theater will eat you together with what you eat, therefore eat something yukky - to be not tasty for the theater.

Finally, don't forget to bring your own movie on dvd, but don't eat it - you will feel bad if you do.

There's no rule that anywhere that states that it's not allowed, I always bring things like this in... They have no problems whit it.

I usually eat before I go, but if I want to have something during the movie I'll most likely get it somewhere else and bring it with me.
The movie-theatres in my area have a poor selection, and the prices are almost double... I get that they need to make money, but the merchandize just isn't worth the price.

1 normal sized bucket of tasteless popcorn + 1 small bottle of ice tea costs more than the movie ticket itself. o.O

I'm usually satisfied with some popcorn and candy of some kind and I don't mind supporting my local theater, but if I want something they don't have then of course I'm going to sneak it in. The cost of renting space for a theater is pretty ridiculous though (at least where I am), so naturally the food would be pricier to compensate. I won't complain about that, but it's hardly my fault if they don't have any Butterfingers in stock.

Then there's my brother- seven years my senior- who has openly carried a bag of salt in with him to eat out of spite...because who's going to be the guy that tries to stop him from eating pure salt? *Shakes head*

I think almost everyone sneaks food inside. Especially when the theater is next to a 7/11 store or Safeway. It's like telling people, there are better priced food right over there.

The only thing I like is the popcorn since they put a lot of butter over the popcorn so it taste fresh and comes with unlimited refills. But that's about it.

As someone who works in a theatre personally I don't care. It can be quiet pricey at times. My problem is when someone leaves all their wrappers and food scraps everywhere and the manager gets the shits with us because we're not doing proper checks

They're getting money for services provided either way, so I don't see why they'd be complaining. Would they rather I not go to the theater and they get none of my money?

You Kidding me? I do this every time. Drink, candy, Haggis dinner, all of it. I sneak into other theaters too to see another movie I might actually like.

My question is: Why do you have to eat while watching a movie?

Are you going to starve to death if you don't eat for 2-3 hours? I personally don't like having to deal with hearing crunching chewing sounds and candy wrappers opening and people spending two minutes trying to suck up the last spoonful of liquid out of their paper cups. And why do you want to deal with sticky or greasy fingers in the dark? I came to this theater to watch a movie, darn it!
