To me it's overated. It is trying dark and edgy for the sake of dark and edgy. Some characters are not well develop enough to care about them, but there were 4 characters I like. If you want a story this show is bad. You'll just watch it for action and gore. I'll be watching further episodes for the 4 characters I like.

I see what you mean, especially with the lack of development concerning the characters. But since it's still fairly early, i just hope that changes. Pretty entertaining either way.

It is horrible; in the sense that it crushes your heart and soul so damn often.
But as a series; it is godly.
(referring to the manga; the Anime isn't too far just yet for me to judge it fully.)

I tried it out just so to see if it was any good since it was in the top 10 on anime ratings for this season. Now having read the manga a little bit half way through to the current chapter, and being on the recent anime episode the show, I absolutely love it to death. If you like a lot of action, blood, violence/ murder, the dark theme in it, comedy, and don't mind characters dying somewhat especially main characters then it's totally for you xD. I absolutely love it, because of the awesome fights and for the humor even if it is very dark too.

Oh, DEFINITELY WATCH IT!

The manga that the anime is based off of is one of my favorite mangas ever. The anime so far has been doing a great job of adapting it and it's been pretty faithful for the most part with barely any cuts.

The characters are very likable and they have good enough depth. The action is great and the gore and mature content is definitely high, but it's very much a shounen despite its mature content.

I would say definitely give it a shot and try to make it to episode 6. If you're not liking it by episode 6 then I would say it would be safe to drop it.

Comparable to Madoka in the sense that a.) It's dark and knows it's dark and isn't afraid to make you sad and or disgusted, although the manga does a much better job since it's more graphic than the anime and b.) Madoka gets amazing after episode 3 and as a manga reader from before the anime came out and someone caught up with the anime so far, the same can be said for Akame ga Kill episode 6. The first 5 episodes are basically for giving you a background on the characters, setting and the Imperial Arms and episode 6 is where things finally get interesting and shit hits the fan. It was the same in the manga and the anime has done a great job at adapting the source material.

Should you watch it? Yes. Is it overhyped? Nope, the manga readers know what's gonna happen and we do our best not to overhype it. Anyone who claims otherwise most likely isn't reading the manga. Note I say most likely.

Either that or just likes to hate popular things for the sake of hating popular things. I've seen it go both ways, both in the comments, the "reviews" as well as even on this thread already.

TL;DR give the anime a shot up to episode 6 like Loomy just said. if it ain't your cup of tea by then, well you'll want to bail now because it's just gonna get more painful (feels-wise) for you. The animation, sound, acting and story have all be great so far and CR is getting the uncensored version, albeit they de-gored it a lot compared to the manga but that doesn't take away anything.

Edit: This isn't a typical shounen like One Piece and Naruto. As I said before, it's dark and knows it's dark and will make you hate life or the lives these characters have to deal with. Later on in the manga it definitely becomes more of a "what happens if we throw a stereotypical shounen protagonist and his battle buddies into a crapsack world with few obviously evil bad guys" The answer is the good guys go into the moral grey area even if they have good intentions and get really frigging jaded and hopeless. It starts out as a typical shounen much like Madoka started out as a typical Magical Girl show and we all know what happened with that...

The season I only have been watching Akame Ga Kill and Sword Art 2. and so far Akame ga kill has the "oh my hell why?" moment on the first episode that makes you really rethink who the bad guys are but proves to you they are still wicked bad guys according to whom the main group fights against. I would recommend it but this is coming from a guy that hasnt watched passed episode one of Chaos:HEAD.

Thank ya

I try to view shows and manga as objectively as possible. Akame ga Kill does have a few shortcomings but that's the same with literally everything in existence, nothing is perfect. However the pros far outweigh the cons with AgK in both the anime and the manga
