One of the best APPs for watching Anime on Roku has met its demise. Why destroying something that was working fine? There are over 20 pages of comments from PREMIUM USERS who are requesting action from Crunchyroll to go back to the previous version of the APP.

Personally, I have been using Crunchyroll in Roku for 2 years. I do not like this update. It is not user friendly and it makes it harder to search previous episodes and new options too. Please go back to the previous version. This new version is terrible. Perhaps the desire was a good one but the outcome is not user friednly at all. It even makes me inclined to cancel my Premium Membership and use another app instead. There are other options available in Roku, and this one is not the best any longer.

So, when are you going to take us seriusly and answer our legitimate concerns?

It's now in line with their other apps. Sure, it needs polish and care to make it better fit the Roku's controller but once it includes the "More options" that have the core missing functions, then it does the main job.

And personally, I'm glad it's no longer the odd-man out with its own UI that works different than any other CR platform.

Works is the key word here.

I have a ton of devices CR is "supported" on. I'm pretty sure I've tried CR on all of them. But I exclusively used the Roku to watch, because it worked. The interface was a little odd, but not out of place on the Roku. I was able to easily handle queue management, catch up on shows I was behind on, and find new shows in genre's I cared about. I only ever logged into the website to fix payment issues.

Now, the interface is the odd man out on the Roku. It doesn't do anything in an intuitive way. Definitely not the Roku way. Supposedly there is help in there, but I didn't find it. As far as I'm concerned, it no longer works.

The reason I paid for Premium membership is because the Roku app made it easier for me to enjoy Anime than other available methods. That's no longer the case. I have already cancelled my membership renewal. Maybe I'll check again in a few months to see if they made good on their promises of fixes. Or not.

Ditto!! My remote barely works and is not intuitive. I cannot transition from episode to episode in an anime without first completing the current episode and then returning to the Roku home page and then traversing back through to Crunchyroll, then to my anime. Even then, I can only move on to the following episode... No going back!

I voted "A serious mistake and huge step back" because the Roku is still my only surefire method to watch Crunchyroll with since the web player freezes, and I don't like to stream video on my Xbox 360 because it gets too hot, noisy, and the time skips are still present in a lot of episodes.

Also because I don't want to cancel CR. Even with this horrible mistake of an app I still think it's a great anime catalog, and I love the volume of simulcasts available every season.

It's just a shame they "updated" my only truly usable way to watch shows with an app that takes so many steps backwards, and is such a pain in the ass to use.

so, the new app loads shows a lot faster, but... I can't seem to manage to change episodes. I can't even progress to watch the next episode.

I have an original Roku. I don't have half the buttons the help page thinks I have on my remote. It still works fine on netflix, it still works fine with the bad funimation app. It is clunky, but it works on the funi site and works fine on netflix.

My queue has become worthless. I can take the slow boat and browse, then select an episode, then play, but my queue will let me pick a show and it decides what episode to play and will NOT let me play the next episode after.

Roku is a simple device. The old system worked. The main thing it was missing was an autoplay option.

The new system disappoints me.

Before, I could recommend CR for content and a simple use system on Roku. Set up your queue on the pc, then swap to roku for easy viewing. Now, skip the pc part, fight through the searches and manually select from there.

The new Roku app is a disaster, period. And I'm thinking of contacting the Better Business Bureau.

Some people have reported success with contacting customer service and receiving a refund for the unused portion of their premium membership.

As that is the best you could expect to be the end result of going through the BBB, why not try it first?

Unless things have changed since the last time I had to contact the BBB, they will ask what steps you've taken to try and resolve your issue with the company.

All it takes is one SIMPLE tweak to fix this app, and that is to add an options button (aka the * button) for the shows you have on your queue. What shocked me is that this is a feature that was there in the previous iteration. I'm sick and tired of flipping through the entire catalog to find the episode I'm on for a show that I already have on my queue. Moreover, the Roku app seriously sucks at recognizing whether or not you've viewed an episode, it's been stuck on the same episode no matter how many times I play through it, which just exacerbates the problem.

I'm not, since as a Roku user who only briefly used the PS3 app, I never knew how shabbily designed the UI for the other CR platform's was.

I don't mind it they align their apps, but it should be "levelling up" across the board instead of "dumbing down".

And as far as care to make it better fit the Roku's controller ... which is going to apply to the much larger market for SmartTV's across the board in the coming five years ... there is no evidence at all that they are going to bother. Once there is some clumsy way to get a majority of stuff done that they overlooked in their first incompetent attempt, it looks like they are likely to call it a job well done and a completed "upgrade".

That won't fix it, it just will make it less broken than it is now. The usability of [FF]/[RW] to get through long lists has been fucked up except in exactly one place, the use of [PLAY] to get to the menu is an unjustifiable design decision, there are no Genres in Browsing where they are needed, and they have multi-tick genres in Search where its mostly useless. Its an unsuccessful port of the PS4 app, and the PS4 app was never as brilliant or polished a design as Crunchyroll seems to have thinks it was.

I agree with TAO ... if in your mind, this surprise roll-out of a broken port of the PS4 app to replace a perfectly good Roku app is not good enough to be worth paying for, then first contact customer support, tell them that the Roku app is not the quality of service you originally decided to pay for, and demand a refund.

Using the play/pause button in the way they currently are on the Roku is kind of annoying and counter intuitive. Press play/pause to access the menu? Wat. It just doesn't make sense IMHO.

I can't seem to figure out how to navigate within a series, but I just started using the new interface the other day so maybe I'm just missing something? Everyone knows that once in a while you've got filler episodes/arcs that you'd really prefer to skip.

Again, maybe I'm dumb but where did the categories get to? They're not as obvious as before if they're in there.

I DO like the larger cover art for the series, but the truncating of the descriptions to allow for this is kind of annoying.

Not dealbreakers for me but I'd really like to see things make a little more sense please.
