I bought into the hype and paid the $4.99 (U.S.) over the weekend. ... Holy shit.

They aren't fooling around. That game really is scary.

They managed to hit the atmosphere right on. The only thing that annoys me is that it uses jump scares.

I'd say Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The tense atmosphere, the classical setting, puzzles and eviroments really gets me. I still haven't dared to play the game to the end.

RESIDENT EVIL 2, second playthrough.enter Mr.X. And everytime this dude busts through a hallway somewhere you didn't expect him.One of the frreakiest classics games I can recall

I loved the gamecube remake of the first Resident Evil, but the psx version spoiled most of it already.

Alice: Madness Returns falls more into the category of disturbing but I think it still counts.

haven't actually played it myself, but it's one of those games that're just as scary to watch as it is to play and i've seen plenty of playthroughs! lets just say i'd love to play it, but i'll probably need to rush to the shops and buy many packs of underwear.

It really is the scariest thing I've ever played! Saying that I don't play many horror games but by gawd I was hollering and jitterbugging like the little girl I am when it comes to these things. :P

Seriously though, they did a good job with this demo teaser thingy, not quite sure if I'm man enough to pick it up and then play through it.

Completed Fatal Frame 2 quite quickly in my standards (two-three weeks) but Fatal Frame 1 has been sitting in my list of uncompleted games for nearly three years. I find it so terrifying to play that I feel like turning off the console after like 15 minute. Something about the difficulty and the atmosphere just makes me very nervous while playing it. And that's from a person who usually finds horror games boring.

I would also add Fatal Frame 3. There are some small creepy details, which also manage to make me nervous.

Yup, also going to add to the fatal frame series.

More recently, I did quite enjoy Alan Wake, it has a twinge at your nerves sort of scare as opposed to shock tactics.

Probably Condemned 2, I thought getting chased by a bear in a house and getting mauled on my way to get a shotgun was scary and thrilling at the same time.

The original Resident Evil during the gameplay, not the scenes with dialogue. I remember I killed a zombie who made a death groan that was far more creepy and lasted longer than normal. It scared me so much that I just turned off the console even though I was near a save room.

I haven't played any horror games but i gotta say games with ghost / scary ass monster with no way to defend yourself are the scariest.

My brother brought dead space and i thought it would be like Left 4 Dead, zombies mode from CoD. Stopped playing after the tutorial.

I could never get into playing Silent Hill/Resident Evil. But I'll definitely get my bf to play it.
I love watching people play games.
