I started a blog, and here I am shamelessly promoting it. http://eldritchblog.blogspot.com/

But really, I want you, Crunchyrollers, to join me in my wacky life adventures. Help me grow and mature as a being of immense otherworldly power. Teach me.

Also, suggestions, criticism.....should this be in writing? I want to keep it in General, as I wish to make it a community effort. A social experiments of sorts with room for growth. The potential for sweepstakes and other mature, adult activities. It'll also get more notice in the General forum.

In General, it'd be considered a personal thread, against the rules, etc, and someone would have to close it. Instead, I moved it to writing for you, since that's a bit looser with the personal thread thing, given that the Creative Corner is all personal content by the users. Hope you get some interesting replies even still

Just comment on what you'd want to read about. Or how much you love my new avatar.

Hmm well as I cannot comment on the actual blog I guess here is fine:

I would be lying if I were to say that I like your new icon, I think that it ruins your persona of an Eldritch and ruins the idea of the mystery behind it and just makes it look 'cute'.

As for the 'serious first post' part I would like to ask, you said you were a Christian and now you're an 'Extra-dimensional Eldritch Abomination' how did you come about that?

Magic. Radioactive experiment. Eating a fragment of the Elder gods. Obtaining a powerful mask that can completely change your very existence.

If Your Asking Why I Capitalize Every First Letter Its Just A Stupid Obsessive Thing I've Done Since I Was Young And I Need To Stop

I don't care about that, I just wanted to know why you capitalized every first letter. Now I know, and no longer care.

I met King Arthur recently, and ate at Quiznos for the first time. Check out how that went at my blog!

Stories about eldritch abominations are, by their very nature, difficult to write. Since these characters are supposed to be abstractions liberated from sense, propriety, and even chemical or physical limitations, one has to stretch their imagination to its very limit in order to even conceive of how to describe one. If you're able to easily visualize them, pronounce their names, and understand how and why they do what they do, then something has gone awry. The reader is supposed to have a hard time piecing everything together in a way that makes complete sense, and among the most critical tasks for the writer is to ensure that the reader is never fully able to do so while still remaining interested in trying.

In my experience the eldritch abomination elicits its horror not only by having the creature perform acts we consider to be morally repugnant (though this is often part of it), but also (and more importantly) by leaving us with only a limited understanding of why or how it's even doing these things. Not only are we terrified that the creature whose form cannot be described by sane men is suspected to somehow be causing people to die in ways such that only seeing the creature and the terribleness of the victims' deaths are common factors, but we're even more terrified that we're not even sure how, why, or perhaps even if it's killing people. This is even more effective if enough of a nucleus is given for the reader to get an idea in their heads while leaving them to draw their own conclusions, ideally conclusions more horrible and frightening than anything you could have penned specifically.

In other words, perhaps the most important task of all for a writer of eldritch horror is to turn the reader's own imagination fully against them, to have them conjure and sustain a terrifying vision nearly entirely of their own design.
