Yes. Anytime somebody mentions kidney stones I remember mine and feel their pain.

Should we congratulate you or what? You might want to ask what the limits to human bonding are

I think everyone has that. Just different experiences and things we feel the sympathy to.

Wait... Have I always been wrong about Sympathy and Empathy?

I thought Sympathy was when you haven't gone through that persons pain, but you feel bad for them. 'When you haven't been there'

and Empathy was when 'you've actually been there', and you know exactly how it feels.

Am I wrong?

My friend gave birth recently and my other friend made her go into great detail about it. I don't know why i'm friends with these nasties. Anyway, I don't know if they were sudden PMS cramps or what, but my lower half started aching just listening to it.

It's more like sympathy is feeling sorry for, or understanding another persons pain, empathy is relating to that pain, both are regardless of whether you've experienced similar things or not, although empathy can include the connotation of experiencing the same thing.
[edit] This explains it clearly enough

the worst one was related to my rabbit's death. it was painful for me because when she was alive, I felt how eager she wanted to live, you know like when I went to feed her, she would get startled by the sound of my footsteps. and then she died abruptly due to sickness. and it was painful for me.

I was so engrossed in sympathy and understanding people over the years and saw it as the ultimate philosophy for knowing people but then I saw the pain and i fell into depression so...
