Hey guys,

I just when to Otakuthon in Montreal with a friend this year, the second time I've been to a convention. We both enjoyed it very much and we are thinking of doing a cosplay for next year. But next year we will be turning 19 years old and this got me thinking.

How much longer can i continue to attend these conventions?
Until what age is it socially acceptable to go to an anime convention?
At what age would I be considered "that weird old dude"?

Now I'm not the kind of person that likes to boast about anime in public especially if I'm all alone. I buy those anime tees that can pass as a cool t-shirt but if you watch anime you'd respect the shirt even more.

At Othakuthon I saw a few people who were most likely in their late 20's and maybe 30's, and not that I think that that's old or anything but is it too old for the anime convention scene is more of what I'm worried about. And I guess the fact that those guys were kinda like the stereotype of a geek which didn't help at all. Cheesy anime shirt, messy hair, often times smelly and playing on a psp, all those things together. Obviously I take care of myself and I wouldn't dress like that guy but it still got to me.

TL;DR - Answer the question straight up

So my question stands... At what age would you stop going to anime conventions?

Or

At what age should you stop going to anime convention?

PS: Sorry for the wall of text :/

I would never stop going. As long as I'm still enjoying anime I don't see the point in not going to to an anime convention.

If you try to please everyone else, you will end up turning into someone you're not. Forget what people have to say about you, do what you enjoy without worry.

Q: At what age should you stop going to anime conventions?

A: Whatever age you are when they put you in the ground.

I will be like 80 years old, dressed up as Faye Valentine, at a con years from now.

You should keep going as long as you are able and feel comfortable about going.

I don't think there's any age that's "too old" for a convention. I know it can get more and more uncomfortable as we get older to be at cons where there are a lot of 14-16 year olds, but I've seen some older people cosplaying, and even parents cosplaying with their kids. So as far as I'm concerned, you're never too old. I'll probably be attending cons with my grandkids, if they end up having an interest in anime.

It doesn't stop.
But you ask the question maybe because you saw some older people cosplaying at a con? Well, animé and cosplaying are relatively new, so the older generations aren't into it as much right now, or they're afraid of "coming out". But as you get older, people in your age bracket will grow older with you and they will still cosplay, I'm sure.

...It... just won't stop. ;P

...OMG!! IT'S NOT STOPPING! I'M STILL COSPLAYING AND I LOVE IT!! DAAAAAMN YOOUUUUUUU!!!

You're never too old to go conventions!
I hate the stigma that surrounds us.
I've been to several sports events where most of the people there were super drunk and smelled like piss. Alas, this is considered normal in our culture.
But you're considered a loser if you like anime and dressing up if you're older than 25.

I echo BlueOni's answer. When I'm dead. I have met 50- and 60-year-olds who go to cons and cosplay and are fun as hell to talk to. It's always so amazing for me to see fans of all ages and types who like the same things that I do. I'm in my 30s and don't plan to stop anytime soon.
