I find immersion to be the fastest way to pick up on a language. Read manga or other works that have pictures to help you figure out what's going on, or read books you've already read translated into Japanese. Watch Japanese news or anime. If you can find one in your area, a beginning Japanese class is good for giving you a foundation to build from. but if you're willing to invest the time on your own, once you have the foundation, you'll learn far more from reading/hearing it used naturally than you would in a class.

Well I take an online class and it counts as a high school credit and its accredited site. Its a semester long and it cost $400. If your interested i'll give you the link to it. So far it seems like a good site to learn Japanese

"Liking" it is enough reason. Necessity is not important because..

You can live your whole live successfully with ONLY English here in the U.S.A.

So... you might as well learn WHATEVER languages you like.

Because learning languages is good and healthy for the brain just like learning to play instruments or computer coding.
It expands your mind and helps you look at things from a different perspective.

Buy either Genki, Minna No Nihongo or Japanese for busy people. Then download ANKI and download a flash card set for the books you've bought and learn the vocab. You'll also need to learn hiragana/katakana first:3

I never thought I'd hear this in a site where everybody worships the Japanese.
