FUNimation have challenged CR to the ice bucket challenge https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtZ09d7W5Ww .

I must say, I'm getting tired of all these ice bucket challenges... Why don't companies/corporations just go out and announce that they've donated money for the cause, what's the point of throwing water over yourself?

So, what do you think about the ice bucket challenge?

Its for a good cause and it also helps a lot of people get a lot of money through advertisements.

I'd say it's for a good cause so it doesn't really matter how old it may be getting. This appeals to others who don't really care about this stuff, but I have to say that some people are just using this as an excuse to get attention and make themselves look good in front of others.

No

I dumped water on my sister's head for this and that's about all I'm doing...

If you really want to help people with ALS, donate money or become a doctor and actually help people with ALS. Okay.

Well not everybody is like that, I have seen a majority of people use it as an excuse to make themselves look good.

don't need to dunk myself with cold icey water to have the common respect to donate money.
i'll just donate like unlike a few million morons.

Most people just do the bucket challenge now thinking it's fun to do, ignoring the point behind it.

I don't see the problem, I mean at least funimation actually talked about the disease and didn't just say oh we are doing the ice bucket challenge.

Good cause or not, I am getting sick and tired of ice and their buckets challenging people. I actually though the whole "let's dump ice water on our heads" thing was kinda stupid from the get go, the only one I've found to be relatively entertaining was one by Achievement Hunter and that's because they used 32 gallon trash cans and 2 of the 3 people went in head first. Long story short, I'm very tired of seeing it pretty much everywhere you go online.

just brings awareness. that's the purpose behind it.

if ppl see their fav celebrities doing the challenge, they are more inclined to donate money.

I donated to charity when I saw my idol (Christina Aguilera) promoting said charity... it's how human brain works... at least the general public.

So far since it's begun the Challenge has earned over 94 million USD for ALS (in comparison to the 2-4 million they usually earn in this timeframe). It's due to the celebrities that normal people get interested and pledge, most if not all the celebs that have accepted the challenge also pledged as well. It's along the line of seeing how many people can pile into a phonebooth or how years ago people were always trying to break guiness book world records. By keeping it in the eyes of fans of celebs the fans feel connected by believing in the same causes as thier heroes so the charities and the ALS sufferers both come out winners.

The thing that bothers me is only 27% of the donations actually go to funding ALS research. I gave my donation to the Wounded Warriors Program instead. Find a cause that means something to you and give money to that.

The bucket challenges (and videos) are rather silly.. but they're also raising a ton of money for research towards a cure, so I can't complain too much about them. I mean, even in the Funimation video, they said they'd already donated, so corporations are donating, individuals (like Patrick Stewart), and so on are doing so.

I know my company is doubling all donations that our employees can raise, as well as donating $20 on top of everything else for anyone who does the challenge while at the office. It's good publicity for the company, raising awareness for ALS, and leading to the best fundraising year they've ever had, from what I can tell. Good stuff all around.
