Please just stop. Leave me with my memories and quit butchering good shows. Not every freaking show needs moe blobs. They don't even freaking look the same. GIVE ME BACK MY CHILDHOOD! On a more serious note, I love the older style of animation where characters were a lot older than they looked more realistic.

I've been an anime fan since I was five years old, and I actually remember Tenchi Muyo being one of my childhood anime.

With that said, I actually like these modernized redesigns.

If you're gonna remake an old 80s or 90s anime for modern-day audiences and wish to make the characters look fashionable and sexy to those people, then you'd also better modernize their looks and fashion to match what's considered hot, sexy, chic, or stylish in the modern times.

Tenchi Muyo, I think, is doing the right thing of updating the characters' fanservice values to modern trends. At least the characters now look like girls from the 2010s rather than the early 90s. Face it, Tenchi Muyo was a fanservice-heavy harem back then, and it is still now.

Sailor Moon Crystal, on the other hand, did it wrong in my honest opinion. They tried to "modernize" Sailor Moon, but kept the original designs and fashion from the early 90s. As a result, we now have girls who look like late 80s or early 90s hipster wannabes stuck in 2014. I dunno about back then, but nowadays, the Sailor Scouts still wearing those late 80s/early 90s hairdos, fashion, and makeup just looks plain ugly and ridiculous. They don't look like "hip" and "chic" anymore; instead they look like hipsters that stick out like a sore thumb, especially when in Sailor Moon Crystal, most background characters actually look modern AND were even shown to have SMARTPHONES.

That's why I give my kudos to Tenchi Muyo for having the sense to modernize.

Oh FFS.

The character designs did not need changing!

There is not enough grumpycatNO.jpg in the world for this.

Tha FUCK did I just look at?
Apart from the here-we-go-again fetishizing of their legs, this is just above and beyond normal levels of stupid.
It almost makes you think all women in Japan run around everywhere without any pants on.... and have no idea how idiotic it looks.
Seriously, have some fucking dignity. Those are the worst character designs I've ever seen. Just stick with the original Tenchi. Let them make ugly remakes, hopefully it will just draw attention to the original versions and how good they actually were.

Dubnoman

We can criticize their tastes. Really, some of the things that sell and are successful in Japan...some very good animes don't get as many seasons as they should (or even a second one!) while animes like Loli Princess Pantsu Quest sells a ton on blu-ray and Moe Girl's After School Tea Time and My High School Experience Is Lacking, As Expected are all the rage.

Many cutesy girl anime flop, and I don't think any purely loli anime has been huge in a long time.

See that site for the 10k+ best sellers from 2000 to present and tell me how many are purely CGDCT anime and Loli shows. Bestsellers vary quite a bit, so no, Moe Girl School Club #434 are not always the rage and they are rarely the only rage.

Anyway, didn't watch the old version of this show, but the newer designs are way better, and I'm not sure how they look 'younger', or more like blobs, they seem to be more developed and better looking, imo. I don't think I'll be checking it out now, but eh.

Right. Not saying Tenchi didn't have fanservice. And I'm not saying I dislike fanservice(quite the opposite, actually ). I just don't like it when fanservice is built into the primary outfits for characters like it is for this new Tenchi series. It cheapens the fanservice when you see it nearly the entire time any of the girls are on screen. Fanservice should be a special thing that is only given out time to time.

lol I can see the old version of Ryoko rocking her new look. She's always been prone to stripping and running around half/mostly/completely nude.

It's a bit odd to see some of the changes to other characters, if those are their main outfits. Also, it's nice to see that Tenchi has something of an upgrade, with even glasses. That may just be part of his disguise, however.

My concern is:

Where's Ryo-Ohki?

I can see that, I just think its kinda pointless to complain about fanservice in a show about fanservice.
