Things I hate: the Grocery Store

I never worked at a grocery store.... They never deemed me a person worthy of employment.

NOW when I go shopping at one, I can be a gigantic asshole... usually to other customers. There is nothing stupider to me than a customer plopping their crap on the conveyor and then nursing it all the way to the check-out person while their kids and their wife/husband stands at the end of the counter, with their thumb in their ass, in the way of anyone who would like to load their stuff out of the cart, actually expediting the check-out process. I tend to invade their "personal space" with a smile and an, "Excuse me," as I dig my stuff out of the cart or basket and plop it down on the conveyor in the VAST empty space next to their pile of goods. I've gotten a sneer or two but they get over it.... I also do the space invasion around people who feel the need to vacillate over getting the "Old El Paso" refritos or the "Taco Bell" refritos or other goods faced on the shelves. A smile and an, "Excuse me," seems to work but again with the occasional sneer.... I've been temped to add some off-color commentary but generally I'm in too big of a hurry to mace or shoot someone who seemed to think a snide comment and a can of "Rosarita" or "Dinty Moore" was getting pissed off about.

Most of the time I try to go through the line where you check out by yourself.... I seldom buy enough stuff to warrant standing in line to check out, so I don't have to worry about bagging stuff.... About the only things are; if I get things that come in big bottles, (2 liters of soda or juice), I'll bring my own floppy bags... The plastic ones break too fricken easy and the little bottle top is the perfect size to poke through the bag and committing suicide all over the floor or parking lot.
The other things; more towns around here have outlawed the plastic bag and they charge you anywhere from 2 to 10 cents for EACH paper bag you use so it's almost mandatory to bring your own.... AND NOT bitch about how it gets loaded.

All the people that I have ever had the misfortune of knowing who were one stop overshoppers did it because they were lazy, too lazy to go to the store more than once a month. My cousin and his brood of Satan spawn come to mind....

The Winco that opened about a half mile from me had parking boots on the carts . . . . for about three months. In what seemed like "over-night" (literally) the little brakes were removed. Interestingly, the predominant "stolen" shopping carts in my neighborhood, come from the Safeway that's almost as far away as the Winco and the WalMart that's on the other side of the freeway.

Well as mentioned above not everyone lives alone.
Also What If that was my shopping for like the next 2-3 months?

Then I hate you. I don't hate you, but I do hate the you that shops. You? I want to see you achieve the all-American dream of earning a fat paycheck in sweatpants stained with artificial cheese dust. Grocery you? I want every grocery you touch to spontaneously burst into flame except licorice; unless you like licorice. In that case, I want that to burn too. Water is obviously immune to this effect because you can't just survive on food you hate, and it would be a crime against nature if you didn't have access to the honey mustard and onion pretzel bits. No Sriracha though!

(sigh) If you dislike so much about your job why do you keep working there? Why not find a new and better job for you? (/sigh)

Well said.

that's easier said than done depending on the man's circumstances.

Oh my god, smelly people are horrible!

I work part-time in a small store and we actually had to kick this one guy out because he smelled so foul! I felt a bit bad for him but people were actually gagging and complaining!

In old age it is natural for people to be slower. And in very old age, very slow. Have a heart.

As a former deli clerk, I have to say this is 100% accurate.

I hate going to the grocery store. Actually, I hate going out in public and dealing with people. It only reinforces my belief that stupid people incapable of performing normal daily tasks in a reasonable manner are breeding like mice; and the massive quantities of junk food they buy isn't killing them fast enough due to recent advances in the field of medicine.

Welcome to retail! Quit your whining and take nothing serious unless you want to be management...

Work Toys R Us over the Christmas Rush, instant birth control!

Work a hunting and fishing place and enjoy the rednecks and assorted idiots. PS, they probably smell worse than anything you've dealt with!

Better yet, you want a better (paying) job? Go work as a plumber's apprentice! Some great smells there!

My parents tend to overshop a lot. They buy everything of everything. It's a bad habit of theirs.

I've worked in retail for 17 years. There is ALWAYS something new that people amaze me with. Normally, in disgust. I feel your pain. I'm a customer service manager. Since we are on the subject of stupid people, I hate it when people get upset that I can't cash their check for whatever reason. I may not have the money, it doesn't follow our policy for cashing, etc. Whatever the reason, I'M NOT A FREAKIN BANK!!! Why don't they have a checking account to deposit or cash their check?!? I've had one since I was 16. I thought it was normal that people bank to keep their money in.

Also, Food Stamp Cards. I'm all about people needing help for food, but some just take TOTAL ADVANTAGE of it!! No, don't buy expensive T-bone steaks, lobsters, shrimp, expensive cake, candy, or ENERGY DRINKS!!! Buy things that are healthy like produce, water, juice, sandwich meats, bread, mac and cheese, etc. I get so annoyed with people buying Red Bull and Monster drinks on Food Stamps. There is NOTHING healthy in those drinks that can probably fuel a car!!!

In general, people are stupid and want whatever they can get their hands on. That's the public for you. Some stink, they're rude, have no manners, and have no idea how to dress in public. And please don't make out with your lover in the store. Save it for home.

Whew! I think my rant is over.
