The fun part about having financial aid for a community college is, when the government gives you a waiver that basically gives you free classes, plus you get financial aid. You're basically getting paid to go to school full time.
So.. lets see I bought my first real console, Xbox 360, bought a new HD TV, lots of food, car repairs, video games, gas for my car, more food.

I save my extra financial aid in case I need it like for traveling home on holidays or stuff I need for class like books. My disposable income comes from my job and so I use that money to buy stuff I don't really need like games.

Pell grants covered all my classes. I got a little extra back. I'm also getting a federal loan since I didn't have any money for books. I ended up getting help for books from a program, so now I'm trying to figure out what to do with that loan. I'll probably save some to pay for summer classes. I don't know about the rest though. Maybe buy a console

_kami-sama_,I want to make it rain one day.

I've been guilty of using it to buy video games, clothes, and gas occasionally . Other than that it sits there in my account.

You guys are talking about financial aid and not student loans, yeah? How are you getting financial aid?! Government says my parents make too much money (combined it's like ~$100,000 a year), that's not even my fucking money! It's my parent's money.

My financial aid got messed up because I switched schools from a university to a community college at the last minute. But if I were to receive extra money from my financial loan (Only got 5k, but that's alright.), I would probably save it for next semester.

I thought the bold-ing, and underlining was pretty clear. Why does the government assume my parents would give me their money for school? I'm 22, my parents are not legally responsible for me. And I'm pretty sure I've only made, like 14K this year so far. That would just barely cover the cost of tuition and that's it.

Soooooo am I filling out these FAFSA forms wrong, or have I been apart of the 1% this whole time and never realized it?

My dad is the only one that works in our household. He makes around $25,000 in a seasonal job as a truck driver. I worked for a 3 months out of state, I made around $3,800. If you live with your parent's they're expected to contribute if they make enough money. $100,000 is a lot of money. If you live alone, then I'm pretty sure you would be able to get financial aid. I live with my parents and we barely get by every month.

Only a fool would waste loan money on things they don't need. ALWAYS use it to pay off loans or use it for other necessities.

I too have received Pell Grant but also Cal Grant, and Board of Governor's Fee Waiver. I'm not exactly sure how much my dad makes but we're just getting by as well. I'm not exactly living in luxury, but I do get some extra cash for me to spend and save. I do need to get a job though.. sustainable income would help out a lot with personal bills and gas.

Oh yeah, totally agreed. I was trying my best to be tactful/I was beating around the bush as to what the gov't considered to be "poor" enough. Thank you for being direct when I couldn't, haha.

Yeah, whenever I heard my dad complain about his job (accounting) I'd always be like . I'd do terrible things to make as much as he does in a year.
