That's some awful news to those of us who recently purchased a 3DS :/ it's like the DSi all over again.

I hope they choose a better name for it when it comes to North America. As many consumers were unaware that Wii U is a separate console from Wii, calling it "new 3ds" will surely baffle some folk. They need to call it 4ds or 3x or something more obviously separate. And clearly mark the games with different colours and such.
That aside, I am not opposed to an update. The 3ds was always a bit underpowered. And I always thought it should have had a right analog built in. (Although, the new right analog nub does look vaguely terrible)
I also hope they make a new 2ds. With a bit bigger of a screen. I just never quite understood why I should have to pay extra for a switch that causes instant eye pain, headaches, and nausea. How is that a "feature"?

I thought it was suspicious when a local game store had a sale on gameboys.

I'm sure most major titles will still be playable on both the original and New 3DS. So I don't think there is anything to worry about at least in the near term.

It is a good thing I've been holding out on one. I have one of the original 3DS units and have been holding out on getting a new one for a while now. I hate how slow my 3DS takes to start up and load between menus and screens, so this new one will be much better. The newer processor which allows the faster loading and upgraded games is a benefit I'm looking forward to. Hopefully there won't much of a separation between current 3DS and "new" 3DS games/users as it would be confusing and a disaster at the same time. I've been wondering if that is why we haven't heard of many new 3DS game announcements this year. Maybe there are some exclusive "new" 3DS games in the pipeline such as other Wii or even Gamecube ports are going to show up on it besides new games to take advantage of the processor.

I'm getting one to replace my original Ambassador 3DS!

Other than performance improvements, it looks like the only new features are the second analog stick and the NFC, neither of which should have any real effect on backward/forward compatibility. By the time there are any games that make exhaustive (or exclusive) use of either, the old system should have been long phased out.

I don't think they mentioned anything about WiFi but it sure would be nice if they did WiFi-N. N devices are smaller, use less power, and are faster. But they're more expensive than B/G devices.

It might suck for retailers. By the time an international release date is announced, most retailers will probably be hesitant to carry the old one, which will mean that it might be hard to find one during the introduction.

A while back, there was some speculation from Nintendo that they might merge their handheld and console platforms. This might be a small part of that overall plan, adding NFC to the 3DS. Amiibo on the 3DS.

All these improvements are things I would have thought Nintendo would be saving for a brand new platform. Better 3D, faster processor, Amiibo support, second analog. The better battery life was the only thing I was expecting in a revision, leaving the rest up to accessories. But it seems to me Nintendo is following the trend of making systems friendlier for the hardcore gamer, instead of treating them like the niche. Microsoft has done it ever since the backlash from the Xbox One announcement and Sony is doing it with the PS4. It's refreshing.

Makes sense they would do something like this. They always do this to get more money. It's a bummer and it sucks but what can we do except buy it right? I want the new 3DS now.

Probably getting one for Xenoblade. Maybe not right away though..unless theres a sick collectors edition. Sucks because I just bought an XL last year but whatever. I'll probably give my younger brother mine. Yay easy christmas present

Same here. Really excited to have a portable copy of Xenoblade. And I'm surprised at the price that the New 3DS will be selling at! It's going to be cheaper then when I bought my 3ds xl 1.5 years ago.

I WANT IT NOW! Seriously... would be worth giving up my old 3DS for. Customizable cases. Menu themes. Improved performance and graphics. Improved 3D. Just... everything. Can't wait to get it. ^^

I never understood why there were so many Nintendo DS's why not resurect the GameBoy name at least i mean New Nintendo 3DS i dont get it its just like Microsoft and there Xbox "ONE" so its rthe old Xbox One with a new coat of paint? and the New New Nintendo 3DS is a New handheld?

So if i go to gamestop i want a used New Nintendo 3DS would that make it a New-Used Nintendo 3DS or Used-New Nintendo 3DS?

Why not call it something like the Nintendo Gameboy Master, Nintendo Terminal you know what i mean plenty of names to elect.
For Xbox One if it does it all and you need ONE console woulnt it been best to call it "Xbox ALL"??

These names confuse me so much
