Difficult to remember exactly what my first anime ever was but it would probably have to have been either DBZ, sailor moon, or pokemon. I grew up on shows like these was good time as a kid.

My first anime and manga was Fruits Basket. It's my favorite show, but manga over anime.

My very fist anime was beyblade even though lots of people forget about it or don't consider it to an anime at all

Sailor Moon. When I was 6, I used to go with my dad all the time to our local Blockbuster and rent it.

I guess that's Dragonball for me. Loved the show as a kid. However after that I stopped watching. Came back only 3 years ago, realizing the full potential of Anime and Manga.

I don't remember what the first one was... But it was one of these; Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh! or Dragon Ball.

I think the first would have been either Pokemon, Digimon or Cardcaptor. But I just saw those as Sat morning cartoon for kids (still loved them though). The show that got me sucked into anime was Escaflowne. It was part of a Sat morning line up. When I first saw it I remember thinking that it was really mature compared to shows like Pokemon. The network pulled the series (probably because it was too much for kids), but I went out and bought the DVDs. That show opened me up to the world of anime.

DBZ ... I can't recall there being anything else before DBZ... But i do remember being absolutely infatuated with anime afterward... I remember looking for anime at the local library on VHS ... I remember missing episodes of cardcaptors on saturdays and being extremely upset ...

When I was a kid, I saw...well, not much. I watched Pokemon occasionally with my younger siblings but being my age at the time - pretended I didn't like it. Which is ironic as now I play a bunch of Pokemon games & watch the newer anime series' with my kids.

That said, getting into anime happened on a lark. I had friends who were joining my college campus' Sci Fi/Anime Club. The anime portion of the club had weekly meetings where the would, what else, sit and watch anime projected on a big screen. The first series I remember watching were Love Hina and Noir. I remember I just got into it. I don't remember what about it caught my attention, but I liked the music, I liked the characters. I just liked it. So, I started to watch more anime. And more anime.

I stopped watching it with any regularity in grad school. I had some on DVD which I would throw in from time to time (Bastard, Lupin III, etc), but not a lot. It wasn't until my wife got pregnant this year with our twins that I got into it again. My wife wasn't sleeping well, so she'd end up sleeping on the couch and I'd go upstairs to sleep each night. If I couldn't sleep, I ended up checking our On-Demand options. I found a Blue Exorcist and was hooked quick. Watched that and Fractale On-Demand every now and then at night. Now, not watching a lot - I am an engineer and Dad with 4 kids, but I am getting some anime in every single week
