Series with age 20+ Protagonist?
Posted 9/1/14 , edited 9/2/14
I'm not 100% certain, but i'm pretty sure that the characters in Natsuyuki Rendezvous are around their mid-20's or so.

House of Five Leaves has adult characteres (not sure of their ages).

And Usagi Drop has one main character that's middle aged (the other character being a child that he's taking care of)

Not sure if any of those would suit your fancy, but i'm fairly certain the protagonists are at least 20+ and they're all shows that I really liked. (Though, not too many people were too keen on Natsuyuki Rendezvous).

Even though Space Dandy went undercover to a high school in an episode, I think he's at least 25.

I think the main character from Steins:gate is over 20 as well.

Rintarou Okabe is 18 from wiki.

Given his character design (anime) and voice actor, I'd say he was in his 40s, and I'd prefer to think of it that way.

It's good to pretend. Sometimes for bliss, sometimes to preserve sanity.

Any anime where we actually see the main character grow up through the series?

Lupin the Third. His exact age is unknown but I'm sure he's in his 30's or 40's.

Kemono no Souja Erin (aka Erin) is one such show. It's more geared towards kids and families but it's still really good. One of my favorites, actually. Though I suppose it might not be for everyone.

Does Gurren Lagann count?
Nagi no Asukara has a couple of characters that mature during the series.
Shin Sekai Yori has the cast grow older during the series.

Back to the OPs question, Servant x Service has not been mentioned. The main characters are all recent college grads or older, iirc.

Hikaru no Go covers several years of quite a few characters lives, and Hikaru does grow a lot throughout the run. Mature? Well, everything is relative, I would say.

There is also Bakuman with the characters starting at 14 and aging to 24 by the end of the third series. Clannad: After Story also has characters that age over the duration.

Excel Saga has mostly adult characters as well. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (2012 and Stardust Crusaders) have mostly adult characters. Phantom Blood (Part 1) adaptation starts off with characters being in school, but you see them grow into adults and Stardust Crusaders (Part 3) has only 2 main characters that are still high-school students, while the rest of the team consists of adults.

Also, the first 2-3 episodes of Kimi ga Nozomu Eien/Rumbling Hearts take place in high school, then there's a 3 year time skip where most of the main characters are young adults.

Going through my list and checking wikis...

Most of the cast of Baccano! are adults.
There's also Black Lagoon.
And Break Blade.
And Casshern Sins probably (how do you tell how old a robot is anyway).

Death Note.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
Hellsing.

Monster.

Bunch of older OVAs have older characters as well since they could be aimed at an older audience.

-Most of the cast of Baccano are also immortal lol.
-For Black Lagoon I'd say Levi and Rock are at least mid 20's, dutch probably in his 30's and that Jewish guy in his late 20's - mid 30's.
-For Break Blade I believe the main character was 25 during it.
-Casshern has been around for at least 100 years as of Casshern Sins.

-For Death Note, in part 1 Light is I think 17-19 throughout it. In Part 2 he is 23.

-For Legend of the Galactic Heroes at the very beginning Reinhardt and Kircheis are 19, but Yang was 33. Reinhardt was 25 at the end I believe.
-For Hellsing you can't really tell since Alucard is immortal, but I would say he was atleast in his 30's when he became a Vampire.

-For Monster I am pretty certain Tenma was in his late 20's early 30's at the beginning, which would probably put him in his 40's throughout the series.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
For some added shows.

Space Brothers : Mutta is I believe 32 at the beginning and Hibito is 29. I could be wrong though.
Planetes : Hachimaki is 25.
Usagi Drop : The main character is 30 in the beginning. 42 at the end of the manga.
The Unlimited Hyobu Kyosuke - Technically Hyobu is an antagonist in Zettai Karen Children and this is just a spinoff, but he is like 60 going on 18, Meaning he looks like he could be in his late teens to early 20's but he has been around since before World War II.
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Pretty sure Jonathan and Joseph were in their 20's. I think Jotaro is 15, but he looks like he could be 25.
Arakawa Under the Bridge - I don't remember his age, but wasn't Recruit the president of his own huge corporation or something? He has got to be in his early 20's at least.
