Device Type: iPad 2
Streaming Via: Wi-Fi
OS Version: 7.1.2
App Version: 2.30

I went to watch Cardcaptor Sakura today and the video displayed with a black border around the screen. I'm assuming the video was a 16:9 video with black bars on both sides of the video. However, in order to display 16:9 video, the iPad has to add black borders at the top and bottom, because it's a 4:3 screen. I'm assuming that's what is causing the border around the screen. It's watchable, but quite annoying. Is it possible to zoom into the video to fit the screen, similar to the Netflix app? Also, Rurouni Kenshin, another show with a 4:3 ratio, played just fine.

The show is old. I'd be surprised if it has a 16:9 full screen display. I have the same issue when I use my phone or my vita. I'm guessing they made it this way so that the quality can still be somewhat decent.

I wonder if the CCS episodes have bars added to the left/right to create a 16:9 video that appears 4:3, while RuroKen are natural 4:3 videos.

Viewing it on the web player, that certainly appears to be the case.

Since CCS has captions on the OP, which normally only show up when a series is subtitled by the North American home video distributor, it could be that NIS America provided it in 16:9 pillarbox format.
