One thing I've noticed while watching anime is that some have spectacular soundtracks that make you love it even more I'm not sure if this has been the case for anyone else but for me its had a large impact on me for instance: When Fairy Tale used BOA's Masayume chasing i couldn't help but jump and sing along with the characters in the intro. These are just my opinions but I would love to hear everyone else's opinion.

definitely.

I think choosing fitting songs for the opening and closing is very important to the enjoyment of the anime. it helps reinforce the story/themes.

This is a very confusing question. I'll just take it to mean has music in an anime ever gotten you really pumped or excited in ways that others have not.

To which I'd reply, yes.

To name just a few, 'Salvage' from Kokoro Connect always got me coming back for another listen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDK6TxzBqEY). There's another track or two from the background of the show itself that always got emotions flowing, but they are impossible to find on YouTube.

I haven't watched Kare Kano in probably a decade, but the instrumental piano version of 'Yume no Naka e' still gives me goosebumps to this day (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpEVwb21ka4). It's also one of the few tunes in all of anime that I will just randomly hum out of nowhere. It has had that kind of staying power with me. There is, of course, a non-instrumental version, too (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAG6PhIbobg). To this day, I wish Gainax hadn't dropped the ball as bad as they did on that series.

Speaking of Gainax, my favorite anime of all time is still FLCL. It would not be near as effective to me without a particular scene in the middle of the series with 'Hybrid Rainbow' used as the musical backdrop (song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kFDupIY_lc and scene http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ni4jPgdBiM).

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention 'Don't Say Lazy' from K-On!, which has always been awesome (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwPDHobfrAA).

Same goes for Toradora's 'Pre-Parade', which always got me pumped for the episode (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz0tzd3WRr8).

Speaking of anime based on Yuyuko Takemiya's novels, the second OP for Golden Time was legitimately making me cry as the series went further on, so that probably counts, too (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EyYqpjSfRU). It's just... urgent and depressing, especially with the visuals (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jer-_oRfLyg).

I guess I should probably close with this one. Were it not for this one, I'm not sure I'd have watched the show at all. At least not when I did. Watching Haruhi Suzumiya performing 'God Knows...' was the reason I finally downloaded and watched that anime (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxFQeIniK1w). I fell in love with The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and read several of the novels. I made the song my ring tone and it followed every phone I used for the next seven years. Only last year did I finally change it and I still consider it my default go-to ringtone when I can't think of anything else. It wasn't just the song, though, but the performance in the show (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kA4tGu60mo). I'm not as big on the series these days, 'cause it's just been so long, but I still love that song and that scene.

I guess that's a good enough list for now. Maybe I'll remember more later.

For me, it can only make an anime better; it can't make me like an anime LESS.

Story has always been the and all be all for me in all forms of media. When watching anime good artwork/animation, interesting characters, good voice acting, and a good soundtrack are like spices that add flavor to the main dish that is the story. So if the story isn't good the soundtrack isn't gonna make any better (ie Inuyasha: great soundtrack one of the best anime soundtracks i've ever heard but the story is garbage).

I always get chills when I hear the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra's rendition of Hayato Matsuo's "Gradus Vita", and "Letze Batallion" always gets me pumped up and raring to go. I tell you, Hellsing Ultimate is worth watching if only for its ending credit sequences. They even included one of Herms Niel's better marches*. Even so, knowing when to use silence is just as important as knowing when to use what music. The final episode of Death Note illustrates the concept beautifully.

Moving to the negative, it's interesting you should mention Fairy Tail. In my opinion it overuses to the point of abuse a particular part of what is really a fantastic set of marches by Sir Elgar. I am referring, of course, to "Land of Hope and Glory" (the trio section of March No. 1 in the Pomp and Circumstance set). Yes, it's a tune which has been invoked throughout its history to mark major victories and events (including a king's coronation), but it doesn't need to be used for every victory and event. That overuse degrades the march, it takes away the shine.

*Acknowledging a man's musical talent is not an endorsement of his political affiliations, nor is it even an endorsement of the content of his lyrics. Such an acknowledgement is exactly what it sounds like: acknowledgement of the man's musical talent. If you're confused on this point I suggest administering repeated blows to your own head with a heavy object until unconsciousness sets in. Should you still face this problem upon regaining consciousness continue with the previous treatment until you are fully availed of the illusion.

Yes.Durarara, Attack On Titan,Toradora, WataMote, Golden TIme, Sword Art Online, RWBY, Death Note, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Bleach, Good Luck Girl, The Pet Girl of Sakura Hall, The World God Only Knows, Sunday Without God, Angel Beats, Oreimo, Future Diary, My Teen Romantic Comedy, etc.

Of course, music in anime is really suppose to make you love the anime more and mix and match your ideas about it. It's music after all, music does a lot of things. That is why there is always different genres of music and why people have different tastes than others.

With that said, that also means music can affect what your target population is. Music in anime also helps you remember the anime better. Music is also an example of branding. When you see the Golden Arches, you (hopefully) know it represents McDonalds. Just like in anime... If I were to listen to the Sword Art Online opening without a picture or video, I will automatically know it's from Sword Art Online, just like all the other anime I have watched. Music also provides a certain feel that sticks to you forever. Sometimes in my experiences, a random song comes up and I have no idea what it is, but by closely researching the tune and lyrics, I am able to find the source of where the music has come from.

a soundtrack in an anime can either make it 1000x better or 1000x worse depending on what it sounds like.

Bleach... it got me into Uverworld when I was around 15.

But my all time fav openings are for Gegege no Kitaro (sing along :") type), Ghost Hunt (wow), Sci-Fi Harry (anticipation that this anime episode is going to be dark and disturbing), Wolf's Rain (rebel's anthem) and HunterxHunter (makes you smile)

Soundtrack is, for me, one of the most important parts, as I'm very sound-oriented (is that how I say it?).

Its hard for me to enjoy an anime with a soundtrack I don't like. Alternatively, an average anime can be made better with its soundtrack.

Of course, I'm completely insane, so don't take any of this to hear-t (Haha! Pun! I know, I'll leave now).

Other than PLOT and Characters and such...the Music IS just about the Other MAJOR "Driving force" within an Anime, progressing the Story along, as well as bringing up Emotions of all different sorts in all different sorts of People.

I would probably not have rated Oh! Edo Rocket as high if it wasn't for the opening song. then there's also Ghost in the shell: Stand alone complex's music and Log Horizon's opening song as well. but if there is anything wrong anywhere else the music isn't going to save it unless its 90% of the show's premise like K-on, [email protected], AKB0048, etc... It does definitely add something.

I'll just list some songs that really got me pumped or set for the show:

Cha-la Head Cha-la (DBZ)
Sobakasu (Ruroni Kenshin)
Shut up and Explode (X'amd)
Immoralist (Dragon Crisis!)
My Soul, Your Beats! (Angel Beats!)
Inner Universe (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex)
Oedonagareboshi 4 (Oh! Edo Rocket)
Database (Log Horizon) can't be found on Amazon/I-tunes (other than a music box parody)
Hacking to the Gate (Steins:Gate) can't be found on Amazon/I-tunes (other than a music box parody)
You Get to Burning (Martian Successor Nadesico)
Days (Eureka Seven)
Just Communication (Gundam Wing)
Cruel Angel's Thesis (Neon Genesis Evangelion)

I could go on...
