He is the first Japanese man to make it in a major since 1918 and 1933. Congrats!

He's the first Asian man to play a Grand Slam final EVER. I've been watching him since his run at Basel in 2011 (Thank you, Tennis Channel!). I'm hysterical right now.

My two favorite men's tennis players are him and Roger. Don't ask me to choose between them if Roger beats Marin Cilic today...

am shocked the two finalists are not djokovic and Federer. usually they dominate the majors.

if nishikori can win this, the Japanese can finally title him the prince of tennis

It's a new era, maybe. Or maybe other players are just going to be part of the mix now.

I bet the ratings go up for all tennis anime, at least in Japan.

I'm just glad to see someone in the finals not named Federer, Nadal, Djokovic or Murray.

Congrats to this man though. He earned it.

Can't you people just be excited for someone not because of their Nationality. Especially if they're Japanese? Anyway, congratulations to him and I think he's pretty darn cute too.

If the man were not Japanese, we wouldn't be talking sports on an anime site. We'd be on a sports site. If you don't like topicality, maybe you can get more general sports discussion going here. Then you will not see nationality mentioned so much.

And if you don't think this will be mentioned in upcoming tennis anime storylines.... Obviously not for six to nine months, given production schedules, but soon. It will also have an effect on highlighting anime and manga, because tennis will be more prominent.

TBH like most tennis aficionados I expected a Djokovic vs Federer final with Novak winning in 4 sets. But after watching Kei vs Novak there's no doubt in my mind that he seems destine to win the US OPEN title and break the Western (I'm including Australia for simplicity) hold on the Grand Slam tournament.

Kei throughoutly outclass a mature Novak and after winning two 5 set matches where he beat the #5, #3, and now #1 in the world I can't see it ending any other way than by him taking the title.

Ohhhh the irony, I grew up watching Captain Tsubasa but that never happened for Japan. I play tennis but never read the Prince of Tennis and it appears that the author was up to something!

がんばって!

I wish it was Nishikori and Fed or Monfils three of my favorite tennis players in the last 10 years.
