Honestly, it's been pretty stable since they resolved whatever issues were causing the service to be unwatchable from the middle of June through the end of July. However, Monday night it went right back to being unreliable again. Round about 8:30 or 9 pm PST on Tuesday nothing would play past the first minute or two (I'm only using the Apple TV app at the moment, but the last time I was seeing these symptoms, they were occurring on the Web and PS3 apps as well). All streams would freeze in place. Last night, it was fine from about 7:45 to 9pm, but right at 9 it went back to freezing again (it froze in the middle of one episode, so I tried to switch to something else and again no other episode would play past the first minute or so).

For whatever reason, this seems to be the pattern with CR. It'll be fine for a month or two, and then for some reason the service takes a nosedive and is unwatchable for anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, until either CR addresses the issue or the issue somehow resolves itself (and based on what I've seen from the service and support, I'm inclined to believe it's the latter).

When CR isn't watchable, I'll switch over to Hulu (I did this for about two weeks in July). Last I checked, Netflix didn't have enough anime to make it a viable alternative... And Hulu has a lot of the same shows CR does. Yeah, it has commercials... But honestly I'll take a few commercials if it means they can provide me a reliable service that is available to watch when *I* want to watch. The fact that CR continues to have these issues, while I can stream Netflix, Hulu, and HBO all day long (literally; I have been marathoning episodes of the Sopranos while I game on the weekends) and not have a single stutter, freeze, or glitch, is puzzling at best.

All I can say is that they better hope that Netflix or Hulu don't get serious about streaming anime. Because CR's library is the only thing that is keeping me (and others, I suspect) subscribed, at this point. If some other service were to come along with a library that rivaled CR's... I don't see them lasting very long. Because they can't really compete on the quality of the service, commercials or no.

No they don't compete at all on quality. The only thing I see them doing is trying to amaze the masses with quantity over quality.

While no one site can compete with CRs library, you have enough free sites to make a better alternative then CR.

For example you have Daisuki and Hulu being the top free competitors. Daisuki being amazing. register for free and you get 1080 SAO: GGO, ALDNOAH.ZERO, The irregular at magic high school and a few other high profile ones.

Hulu has quite the library itself.

Honestly now I check other sites first before coming to CR, which is why my sub is canceled. I don't see them improving their service beyond random temporary "good days/weeks". This has been going on for years.

We are just sheep to them, they couldn't care less about service quality.

I dunno, cant even watch 1080p anymore since a week ago, it just stutters too much. This never happened before. Of course I checked my internet connection. I can watch HD streams on other sites just fine.

I seem to be getting quite a bit of choppy playback lately, so I looked around the forums and found this thread. I don't think the problem is on my end or with my network connection, because I can play videos on others sites without trouble. This issue seems to be limited to Crunchyroll videos. Turning down the quality can help sometimes, but not always. On the Roku, where I can't find any option to change the quality, it's getting basically unwatchable. I've seen the same ~5 seconds replay multiple times due to buffering before it finally manages to get past it, but like 15 seconds later it's buffering again. It's usually better on my computer, but not always. I still get videos stopping and starting multiple times, sometimes even after turning down the quality. So add my voice to those asking Crunchyroll to look into this issue and fix it. Thanks.

My last straw was today. Had friends over and we wanted to watch the latest SAO a day after it came out. What happened? Yep.. the same thing. Tried another series.. yep.. same thing. I'm done with CR after my membership expires. Shame quality went down the toilet after they got bought out.

I do wish CR would at least SAY something official about this... It's the only thing that lets the service down.

I don't think anything we even say here gets read by anyone official

Well, I took it up w/ CR personally and contacted them directly about this very issue. Guess what? No reply and I emailed them right as I started this thread. They're ignoring us, plain and simple.

As much as I love CR that is just wrong and not going to do them any favours. Poor customer service=people leaving

I feel your pain; I'm very reluctant to renew my year sub at this point.

Same here, as much as I love CR as well, this has been going on for too long now. Why must we suffer for their lack of quality service? I don't know many other options at this point, but if they don't do something to fix what "needs" to be fixed for a paid service by the time my sub is due for renewal, I'll put up w/ Hulu's bullshit ads or go to Funimation instead.

Edit: I'd also like to point out that I have VERY little problems streaming the old One Piece episodes that only have a 4:3 ratio and 480P quality. That's not to say that it doesn't sometimes like to freeze, but I think it's safe to assume (since I've never gotten a clear answer from CR themselves) that it's a lack of resource situation for higher resolutions. They might just not have the capacity for 1080P streaming or even 720P for that matter since that's where I have the most troubles. Though every other website I've tried works just fine in 1080P.

I'm dealing with the same shit. I have done everything the support team has recommended, even messing with my dns settings to open IP addresses. There is no reason why I should be having issues running anything at 1080p. I can view stuff at 1080p on any other site yet on crunchyroll, I am even having issues streaming at 480p and even sd. This is ridiculous. They claim its either my internet connection or that my computer cannot handle streaming at 1080p and lower qualities. That is just dumb.

My PC's specs:
Intel core i7 quad core 3.40 GHz overclocked to 3.60
16 gigs of DDR3
Two nvidia GTX-660's sli'd
1 TB SSD with 3 TB HDD

Download speed 15-30 mbps
Upload speed 10-12 mbps

My PC is a beast so there are no issues on my end. Like I said, any other website runs fine. Any game runs at max settings with no issues, yet this is happening.

It seems like it's about time to start boycotting CR until they get their shit straight.

If only that would work. I doubt that Crunchyroll has enough subscribers having the same issues ... at least it doesn't seem like it since there aren't many forum posts. They have so many subscribers that I doubt they: A: care about these complaints that contain solid proof that they need to fix something and B: would go to lengths to fix these issues. I hate sounding like a pessimist but nothing has changed so far. Its bullshit.
