Guy probably just didn't speak French. Quebec is the most hostile place I have been that wasn't a war zone. On the other hand, I've seen people on CR pushing for even harsher enforcement and sentencing for this kind of thing.

Underage gets really tricky when you are talking about artwork. Do you go by the maturity of image or the age referenced in the "plot"

I don't get the hate on underaged hentai. I would feel repulsed by the idea in real life but I can see it in fiction and not bat an eye.

Ridiculous. A being that has no physical presence can't age.

A creator can literally claim the character is 1000 years old or 4 years old and have the appearance of the character stay exactly the same. The guy can get punished based solely on the claims of the creator about the character.....

It's okay to find this stuff repulsive but your own high horse morality should not bring unwarranted suffering to other people. Once you start policing thoughts, you know you're heading down a real bad road. He hasn't actually watched kiddy porn so he shouldn't be punished. Who exactly is the law trying to protect? It's a victimless "crime" just because the law says so, an arbitrary and meaningless punishment for an act that hurts nobody and is done behind closed doors in the privacy of one's own home. No kid got abducted and forced into anything. He merely saw what someone drew and put on film.

If anything, the government should be going after the CREATOR. And the law shows itself to be even more obviously corrupt at that point because it's basically thought-policing made more apparent. I guess that's why they chose to go after this guy instead.

Exactly

whats' worse is that I think all hentai except for some, would be considered underage.

dun dun dun

mostly because they're 15-17

there are doujins and original works, doujins have anime charaters from various series and we all know that most of the characters look way over 16-17 but technically are. And original work varies.

I don't consider anyone who has gone through puberty a "child" because they are sexually developed. 18 as a cutoff is a really strange idea to me. Why not 16 or 17? People have got to face the facts and look at these individuals. They aren't "kids" biologically if they're able to make kids of their own. They are sexually mature adults. We have no problem saying that about any other creature that exists in nature....except about OURSELVES.

Same reason I hate those laws that protect people under 18 from the full weight of adult punishment for committing the very same crimes. A 16-year-old should totally be punished like a 30-year-old if they committed crimes of the same severity.

But someone drew that hentai. Most hentai looks like everyone is under-aged and no hentai artist puts "this character is above the age of 18".
Wow, that's really super dumb.

I need more context... was he watching it in public?
if he was watching it in his home... how did the police find out? etc etc.

Because if it's the latter, then it's kind of scary how they can see what you're doing online. :/

I always feel nervous when I order yaoi manga from overseas, because you just don't know where the law stands.

But I see a lot of yaoi manga titles in my local famous bookstore, with school-aged characters having sex. so... they better not imprison me... :/.

don't watch animated porn containing children then. like duh. lolicons/shotacons are pretty much pedophiles, doesn't matter if it's "just a cartoon" they're children. like why do i even have to explain this. y'all nasty. it doesn't matter if you're disgusted by it irl either. stop fetishizing prepubescent children and maybe you'll seem a little less creepy

It seems that he did it while manning the ammunition depot at the Canadian Force Base Valcartier, he probably got spot by their network administrator.

I'll watch hentai if I wanna watch hentai, but I think it's pretty stupid to say that fictional characters and such have rights as well. If someone is gonna get blamed, don't blame the poor curious guy who had no idea about it, blame the person who made it, no?

thats pretty stupid. at work. and in the military to boot.

tho i do wonder at the 10 year sex offender...

its like a while back in usa, where there were 10 year old registered sex offenders who took nude pics of them self and sent to they 10 year gf via cell phone...
the law seldom has any common sence.

Sure, make me stop. I'll go tell gay people not to marry men just because I don't like that. Those weeaboo anime watchers won't get away with it either!

Jokes aside, why do people even care? I don't watch that stuff and then tell everybody about it unless it's Boku no Pico. If you don't like that stuff, close your eyes, back away, w/e. I would understand better if the drawings are life-like enough to resemble real kids but they don't look human enough to even touch the uncanny valley despite being called humans.
