thought I could fly.

more accurately I thought my long black trenchcoat could catch the wind and I could glide on it.

I had this in first grade and second grade.I was too mature for it at 8th grade.I had lots of friends who believed in souls and angels and all that stuff,it's pretty embrassing when you find your old character designs, just like what happened to Yuuta.XD

Back in 8th grade there was one weird girl in my class that kept telling everyone she was a fairy at one point. Does that count?

It was 1998-1999 when I was in 8th grade I believe. At the time I very much wanted to be a Pokemon master My friends and I were all carrying around our old Gen 1 gray brick gameboys and having tons of battles before/after school and at lunch time!

The hype was crazy enough that we seriously thought it would grow to the point of national tournaments with huge exposure. Good times. Not really Chuunibyou though since we weren't making up special powers.

I guess around the same time I was also heavily into Dragonball Z though, and I did fantasize a lot about flying and the ability to shoot energy out of my hands. I didn't think I would actually be able to accomplish those feats, but I would meditate and try to power up sometimes to see if I could achieve some sort of higher awareness or something. Haha.

Due to social media's influence on everyone's life, I don't think kids these days are able to view the world with that same sort of wonder and mystery like I was able to and end up sacrificing their childhoods to grow up too fast. I'm very glad that I was able to still act like a kid well into my teens, it made for good memories.

I'm still into that kind of stuff. I used to draw a lot of different character designs during class for the imaginary worlds I made up. Still have some of the "books" I wrote back then, they aren't actually all that bad. Not doing that kind of stuff anymore, but I still like to drift off into my own world, sometimes I even go out in some weird costume I bought as the character I created. Screw society, nobody can tell me what to wear or how to act, I do what I want to as long the law allows it ;)
That's also what the series was about, at least parts of it. Don't let anybody tell you how to act, be yourself and all the people who have a problem with that can have a good long kissing session with your anus.

Why is it called eighth grade syndrome when it can be any grade. Anyways that is a really good anime!

I think 8th grade is the approx age people with chuunibyou grow out of it, i could be wrong though.

In 8th grade, I averaged a miss every week, and the lowest grade I got was a 92. Ugg, that 92 pissed me off so much too, 1 point in our system from an A. My name traveled faster than I did back then, my standardized test scores and grades were both actively bumping up my school's standing and making my whole county look good. Now, I'm in college and you can't afford to miss in most of my classes (biochem major, if you miss you might miss something that you will need from that moment until you get through your grad school.)

When I was younger I used to pretend I had this mechanical superpower type thing. Think Spiderman's webs but they're metal beams that extend from my wrists into whatever shape i could imagine. For example I'd imagine shooting grappling hooks or flying with jet engines.

A lot of these memories seem pretty awesome!

Hold on to them, they're what shaped you into the person you are today. ^^
