I started with Fate/Zero... for no other reason than it was right here on the front page Crunchyroll. Turns out it's first in the story as far as timeline- and even though several series came before it- I already doubt they will beat it in quality. When I finish Zero I'll probably buy Stay Night and watch that. Not interested in most of the subseries...

^ What he said. If your planning on watching both Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Zero, your gonna get spoiled either way such as whose the main villain is and you will know some of the servants true identities.

If your also asking which one who should watch first, I personally recommend watching the 2006 adaptation first cause I think if you watch F/Z first and then F/SN, you might feel a bit disappointed. Also as a person who has read the visual novel, I think it's the best place to be introduced to the entire franchise despite it's flaws.

Are those spoilers that important or is it focused on those plot points of trying to find out? For example, the villain or who the servants are and do they focus the whole series so that the end can have that "big big finale of knowing".

If you watch F/Z then F/SN then the main villain of F/SN will get spoiled as well as the identity of some of the servants of F/SN which should have been a revelation mid-way.

If you watch F/SN then F/Z then the identities of a few servants will be exposed. HOWEVER, F/Z exposes the identities of most servants in EPISODE 1 so it doesn't really seem like a spoil if you watch F/SN then F/Z.

This is how it boils down to. Unless you have the time and the effort to put in to playing the VN, then go ahead and play it. However, VNs are time-consuming games and not everyone has the time to play for hours. So, if you can't get into the VN, I recommend ignoring all the people telling you that the VN is best and you should play it first.

I'll recommend the order to watch the anime according to my personal opinion.

1. Fate/Stay Night (2006)

2. Fate/Zero (2011)

2.5 Fate/kaleid liner PrismaIllya (Magical girl spin-off)

3. Fate/Stay Night remake (UBW)

4. Fate/Stay Night remake (HF)

* Fate/kaleid linear PrismaIIlya is a spin-off that is in no way connect to any of the franchise except for using their characters and story concept. Keep in mind that Fate/kaleid started as a doujinshi which means it was made by fans for the fans. It spoils way too much of the Fate franchise by itself and should be watched only after you're accustomed to the fate franchise.
**UBW movie adapted by Studio Deen can be ignored since it's going to me remade in a month, potentially in better quality and animation.

"Potentially" seems like an understatement. People say its rushed so the story bombs and that the animation is ok. the new one looks amazing and better graphics wise than most anime iv seen.
Also I might as well put it on the table and ask if they ever dubbed them. If so are they worth it? (usually the answer is no)

Why do you think that? Be descriptive without spoilers.

So Fate/Stay Night remake (HF) is the movie remake that "sucked"? Also what is the Fate/kaleid liner PrismaIllya (Magical girl spin-off) and the importance of it? Is it an alternate universe that has no repercussions to the main storyline?

Yes, Fate/Stay Night (2006) was a bad adaption. But it is only bad if you're already familiar with the franchise (already read the VN).
As a stand alone, it excels. Story flow was not in any way awkward (unless you've read the VN) and animation-wise, it is actually above average comparing to other animes of its time (and possibly still better than a hand full of animes that come out now).

From my personal experience, I've watched Fate/Stay Night years ago and I liked what I saw and it became one of my favourites. And after that, I've continued diving deeper into what was called the Fate franchise and I've loved it and would still rewatch the original Fate/Stay Night given the opportunity.

Fate/Stay Night (2006) is a great introduction into the Fate franchise and potentially the only anime adaption of the Fate route.

The only reason you should begin not recommending Fate/Stay Night (2006) is if it was such a bad anime as a stand-alone project that it deters people away thinking that the Fate franchise is a bad, piece of junk. But does it?
It most definitely wasn't like that for me.

Does watching Fate/Stay Night (2006) spoil the stories of UBW or HF route in any way? Potentiallly, yes. IF you go read the wiki or browse through forums reading about spoilers. If not, no, it does not spoil UBW or HF.

Anyway, I will still recommend Fate/Stay Night (2006).

Fate/Stay Night (HF) has yet to be adapted in any form yet. I think you're confusing it with UBW movie.

Fate/Kaleid Liner PrismaIllya is a spin off, thus has no direct relation to any of the other Fate series.
It is a series made by a fan for the fans. It is just a what if story where they set the characters in a completely different setting for the fun of it.

No. The movie that wasn't very good was the 2010 movie Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. It was far too short to cover everything so it made so little sense in parts if you didn't already know the UBW story. It's the Unlimited Blade Works storyline that is being adapted again into a new anime tv series and will start airing in 3 weeks.

Fate/kaleid Liner Prism/Ilya is an alternate universe type story that's completely separate from the Fate/Stay Night storyline.

Yeah, "potentially" definitely is an understatement. I probably should've used "guaranteed". That does sound better.

And yes, there are dubs for all anime adaptions so far. I will not talk about the quality of the dub as I never watched them in dub and as a person that only watch subs, my opinion will be heavily biased.

If you can't get your hands on the visual novel, you can always watch a walkthrough on Youtube or read a LP.

Just to add my two cents. I've watched all of them (Stay Night, UBW, Zero) both dubbed and subbed. I say either is fine. Both are decent (if not above par).

As for what you should watch first, that's really up to you. I'd say chronologically, but that's just me.
