From my experiences, the visual novel was far superior to the DEEN anime, both the TV series and movie.

In the TV series, which follows Fate, they don't really elaborate on Shirou's thought processes and make him look like more of an idiot. If you start with it, it'll probably be fine (it's not terrible, just decent on its own), but the VN itself is much better.

DEEN's UBW movie was nearly incomprehensible as a narrative, and was just eye candy for VN readers. Furthermore, it was mediocre eye candy, and most of the fights in it were pretty bad.

Also, FSN was written to be read with all of the routes together, and their themes build upon each other. All in all, the VN is a much different experience from the anime.

I'd just wait until it airs. I guess you could watch Zero (which is quite faithful to the source), but it spoils almost every major twist of HF. (Doesn't spoil much of UBW though, so I guess that's why they went with it)

Don't bother with the 2006 one. It's eh.

That'll depend on how ufotable starts with episode 1.
Whether or not they will reintroduce the story elements or assume you have watched Fate/Zero.

Best way is asking the question again after episode 1 has been aired. There'll be a more concrete answer then.

UBW = Unlimited Blade Works
HF = Heaven's Feel

They are both storylines of Fate/Stay Night. Check the first few posts of the thread.

Personally, I'll recommend Fate/Stay Night 2006 but if you can't be bothered with it, just go with Fate/Zero first. You won't be missing out on anything when the remake comes out if you didn't watch Stay Night 2006.

If you truly get into the Fate franchise and just want to see one of the routes animated, you'll eventually watch Stay Night 2006 anyway.

I think your right and we need to at least see the first few episodes to decide on what they give away.

Ruff Draft for now
What iv deduced from everyone is that by watching any of the anime or movies or even reading the light novel you spoil the Visual novel of Fate/Stay Night big time(which is the original of them all and thought of as the Best way to enjoy the entire series if you have the time).

If you just wont to get started quickly but know a bit by watching, you can freely just go with Fate/zero first because it is a prequel and is made by the same studio so it has a lower chance of "retcon" or a change in style and pacing.
You may also just watch the New Fate/Stay Night all by it self and still enjoy the Fate/Night later by getting the back story

YOU WILL BE SPOILED ABOUT SOME PLOT POINTS NO MATTER WHAT ORDER BECAUSE THEY FEEL THE NEED TO KEEP SOME THINGS A SECRET EVEN THOUGH THERE IS NO NEED TO (all you really see are them coming into fruition) PLEASE ELABORATE IF INCORRECT WITH OUT SPOILING

What Seems to be the best order by debate for the least amount of spoilers is Fate/Stay night 2006 then Fate/Zero and last the new Fate/Stay Night.(because of the information given that the names an identities of the characters are not important) PLEASE ELABORATE IF THERE ARE ANY OTHERS WITH OUT SPOILING.
If you feel like it, you can watch the FSN movie 3rd then the new show, but take it with a grain of salt as you will enjoy it better and think of it as a extra plot point filler.

Please state cases if there is any disagreement and are free to personal thoughts
It is subject to change and will be later to incorporate the rest of the information from LN and other sources

For the people who own the visual novel. Where can you buy it (official website would be perfect even if its more expensive, later well add other versions) and is it English or do you have to find a translation patch?

Also on that note do you believe that the original PC version is better and not the redone ps-vita version? Which by my understanding the only difference are a new OP and a few new songs and no sex scenes.

Unfortunately, it'll be close to impossible to get an official copy of the original PC version. The only way to get them would probably through auction sites with extremely inflated prices. I did a quick search and one copy turned up on Amazon costing over $400.
The only way to get a PC version would probably be through *cough*unconventional*cough* means.

The only official copy of the game you can get is probably the PS2/PSVita version called Fate/stay night Réalta Nua. I've seen them sold at amiami, play-asia, JList, ebay, amazon etc. but they might be out of stock or unavailable. A pre-owned version of the game should be easier to find.

Also, there is no official english translation for any of the game versions so far. So, you'll have to either get an english translation patch from somewhere for the PC version or just have a script with you when you play.

I'll just re-post this:

Image self-explanatory.

Fate Franchise should always be started with FSN(either Visual Novel or upcoming remakes), then Fate/Zero (which expects you to have knowledge of FSN events and concepts and expands upon what you learned there), then Prisma Illya (it expects you to know both Fate/Zero and FSN knowledge), then pretty much everything Else.

Prisma Illya is just another spin-off like the others (and is mostly just fanservice for VN readers anyway), and isn't required reading to understand the franchise. Only difference is that it has an anime adaptation.

The "main" works are SN and Zero (which are also thematically similar), and are the ones that are the most important to the series.

Also, if you really want to get to read it, you could always just look up a walkthrough on Youtube or something. VNs are mostly just reading, after all.
