Ok, some crimes may be unforgivable, but is the death penalty really required?

Please refrain from posting comments that may offend others, and please remember that this is the Extended Discussion group, so don't post any one-line answers. Justify your answers using any means necessary.

I personally think there are some cases where capital punishment is necessary, but ONLY if the suspect is proved guilty beyond all doubt.

Hum.. Depends a bit on society I guess ~_~

In Norway we don't have Death penalty, and the highest penalty in prison is 21 years.

Norway have one of the lowest crime rates in the world.

Edit:

I realise I didn't really contribute to the discussion there ~_~

Some crimes are unforgivable, but the death penalty is just as bad.
For example, if a murderer is given the death penalty, how does taking yet another life solve the issue? Sure, the offender is taken out of society, but surely the same would apply with simply giving them a life sentence in jail?
And what if, after the "offender" has been put to death, a piece of evidence comes to light proving their innocence? An innocent life has been taken.

Thing is, people in prison seem to get everything these days. They get televisions, radios, games consoles, etc.
Surely this defies the idea of prison to get them to regret their previous actions and to reform?

Being in prison is bad. I can go out and eat right now. I can stay up. I can walk around where I want et cetera. There is no freedom in prison. The surveillance and the control over one's life is deemed by prisoners to be the worst. No matter how much tv and hobby rooms they have. And anyways the point is of regret, not punishment. Prison is to force people to reconsider, not to torture. It is to make law-abiding citizens. Otherwise it was just been corporeal punishment - easier for the budget, or life sentence - so the crime can not be repeated. What I don't understand is that the death has to be painful. Apparently in the US they use poisons that take minutes and are painful, although they have some that take seconds and are painless.

I think it is a good thing, the people who get death penelty have done so bad things that they don´t deserve to be free, sure lock them up in prison for the rest of their lives could work, but take it here in sweden, there is a limit to how many years you can get as punishment and then they are free to do whatever they want again. it´s better if they die rather than that they get out again and hurt more inocent people.
Also to have them in prison costs a lot of money, and the ones paying for that is us. I don´t really feel like paying for some murderer to have a pretty good life in prison. that money could go to much better things.

In my views, it's all morality. A life is a life no matter what it has done in the past. Another punishment should be used rather then sending them straight to death. Humans are humans and they make mistakes.
If a prisoner comes back out and starts doing crimes over and over again, then they don't belong in a prison, they belong in an aslym because a normal human being should learn from their mistakes.

In my point of view, to be dead is an easy way out... so to truly punish someone it would be to give them life sentence so that they can reflect on what they've done instead of the death penalty.

my point of view only.... and i don't think i'm making sense at all... >.<"
