Wasn't sure where to put this topic- I guess here will do. Hopefully someone on the site staff will see it.
So, if you didn't know already- on the 18th of September Scot's like me will be voting on whether or not we should go independent and no longer be a part of the UK.... I'm not making this thread to start a debate on the whole thing or anything- I'm just curious/worried about one thing...... If Scotland becomes an independent country, what effect will it have on Scottish CR members in terms of streaming availability/licensing and membership? None at all? Or will everything change??
I'm completely ignorant on this matter, as you may have noticed, so maybe I'm fretting over nothing. I just really hope my source of legal anime doesn't become inaccessible to me and other tartan-wearing otakus.

I'd have thought it depends on the wording of the licensing; my assumption would be that they own the rights to the UK as it was when they signed the contract, but the next version might just have to have slightly different wording which lists Scotland as a separate nation.

It's funny... I was just thinking this yesterday. I don't know the answer, mind you, but since it won't be part of the UK, I'm guessing shows available to the UK and Ireland, but not the rest of Europe won't be available to Scotland. I mean, logically it makes sense, but it'll definitely suck for you guys. But then again, Ireland isn't part of the UK, but it's constantly grouped together with it, so who knows?

Unless an independent Scotland has plans to establish an embargo on US goods and services I think you'll be alright.

pretty sure uk and europe share the same restrictions. isn't it bound by regional restrictions? scotland will in any case not undergo immediate change after the voting

I would expect Scotland to shift from UK class to Europe class, which probably means different anime at different times. However, I would think that these changes would take effect whenever CR needs to update their licenses for each individual series, so it would be a gradual shift rather a sudden one.

The rest of the world will look upon Scotland as a stand alone country that's indipendant from the UK. So if they get their freedom from the UK then they will be looked upon as a individual license area, this will change the amount of investments CR puts in the country. We can't possible know if that's good or not for the users in those areas until their independence has been set in stone.

Except normally getting divorced would mean more time to watch anime....... This is the complete opposite of that! :(
Not that I'm going to let my love for anime affect my decision about something so important, of course.......
