Hmm. I had heard a report it was 34-35 but I'm sure as Millenials age, the statistics will get there eventually.

It's fascinating and makes sense. Most females I know play video games, but play what others call "casual games" - i.e. puzzle games. My wife is an example who plays tons of Candy Crush. That said, she also plays other puzzle games - she rocks at Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and destroys me at competitive Puyo Pop. That said, I know others (ex, my middle sister, I have 5 of them) who are knee deep in action RPGs with engrossing plots. Me? I play retro games mostly on my Wii, also Smash Bros (Wii), Pokemon (GBA currently), and occasionally Flappy Bird on my phone. I generally don't play games on my PC. And I'm 31, right around that average age for being a gamer.

its kinda cool to see how far gaming has spread. Lets not forget that almost half of gamers are women.

Us older gamers are the gamers who kept the industry alive. Gaming spread to the younger....not the older.

I am a proud 42 year old supernerd who has been gaming consistently since my parent bought me an Atari 2600 in 1981.
I am always happy that each new generation picks up gaming and it is stronger now than ever.

Thanks largely in part by how gaming development budgets have ballooned to where they rival Hollywood action films. These days gaming advertising is as normal as breathing; hell, ESPN2 hosting the DotA2 championships set a HUGE milestone for gaming, and E-sports is becoming more and more renown.

Games these days cater to more people, and most of those people play mainly an hour or two a day which is spread out through their super busy lives.

Gaming has actually gotten so big, that there's problems with the "gamer" label and classifications such as "enthusiast/hardcore", "casual", and "mainstream".

Casual gaming has sky rocketed in the past decade, so I'm not surprised by any figures. It's both a good and a bad thing though. I've been playing games myself since I could walk, thanks to my older brother's influence (he's 6 years older).
