The fact that he is black doesn't mean anything? This could have happened to any cosplayer, even white ones? No, I'm sure they thought he was extra dangerous because he is black.

I mean, these sorts of incidents happen multiple times a year (police overreacting to black suspects), they happen every year, and they have been making headlines for years. Let's face the truth, a lot of police officers...overreact to black suspects, they will use more force a lot of times, a lot of police officers think that black people are more likely to be criminals and also think they tend to be more dangerous than white suspects.

I mean, I feel those things shouldn't even be up for debate. Anyone who disagrees with those things...need to pay attention more. Coming at this from another angle, some people think this certain thing, known as 'white privilege', is just a myth and a lie, and that is not true. White privilege is a very real thing.

Another thing, we don't even know if this poor guy did "lunge" at police with this replica sword. The police said they open fired after he lunged at him, while eyewitnesses claim he was running away and was shot then, and the autopsy shows that he was shot multiple times in the back, and not one shot was to his front. I mean, it really looks like the police did not shoot him after he lunged at him. I mean, did he even lunge at the police at any time? We can see the police report has lies in it, maybe this guy didn't even lunge at police at any point.

I don't think using the term white privilege is very productive for dialogue. But I will admit that law enforcement generally doesn't treat a black or minority suspect the same way as middle class white males.

The conflicting eyewitness accounts certainly give cause of suspicion of the police. And so does the autopsy, although the family was unwilling to provide a copy of the report at the time. It sounds like an investigation is in order.

One thing is for sure, its really strange that a normal person would consider charging cops with a fake sword. I'm not saying that maybe the man was crazy, but if he really did do that, then he had to have had some sort of mental illness.

I just don't know about some people and what they claim. Recently, a 22 year old black man bought a BB gun at a walmart (it looked similar to a real gun, but again, it was a BB gun). So he bought a BB gun in Wal-Mart, and walked around Wal-Mart with his purchased item. Killing time or something. He went to the electronic section and played some video games. Anyway, two stupid white woman called the cops and said a black man was walking around the Wal-Mart with a gun. Okay, understandable that some people might get the wrong idea. But I called them stupid women because they alleged that he was going around pointing the gun at people. I just doubt he walked around the Wal-Mart with a BB gun that looks pretty much like a real gun and was pointing it at various people.

Anyway, what ended up happening was that he was talking to a family member on his cellphone, and that person heard over the phone his interaction with police. This woman (his relative) heard some men yell "DROP THE GUN" and then she heard her relative (the 22 year old black male) yell "It's not a real gun!" and then immediately she heard loud popping noises (gun shots). He was then down on the floor, shot, hurt, and dying, and crying because of the trauma, and then she hears the police yell "GET DOWN ON THE GROUND" (yeah, good job you fucking morons, shoot him right away and then tell him to get down on the ground afterwards). Yeah, well, this man died. More bullshit from police in this country.

We can all understand a cosplayer acting out their role, pretending to attack with a fake weapon, but shit dude...only an idiot would pretend to attack a real officer that has a real weapon. This man gets the Darwin Award.

Deny it all you want, I've seen enough over the years to conclude that a lot of police view black suspects in a different light than many other citizens.

Don't forget about Hispanics too. We're in the same boat especially in backward states like Arizona.

Yeah, I'm sure Hispanics get it pretty bad by law enforcement in some places, too. Certain states (like the one you mentioned), and probably in cities like Miami, too. Maybe they view Hispanic suspects in general as menacing individuals because of something like the amounts of gangs there which have Hispanic members.

WHY IS EVERYONE SO AFRAID OF BLACK PEOPLE?????

The people who shot that man were not scared of him, in fact it was the other way around. However, many whites still believe in an outdated system where Africans are inferior to whites, so its not as though people fear African/African Americans it's that they dont want to see them living equal or greater than themselves. It really just boils down to envy, the white man who used to be superior becomes stupefied when he sees a non-white individual living there living as if they were never inferior (Which they werent). I guess if you were to really cut down to the core, it may be related to fear, a fear that a non white individual can be just as free as a white individual.

I've been far more swayed by the police's account of events with all the Ferguson crap. What with the police officer being assaulted, and the strong arm robbery minutes before the event.

But this case I really get the feeling that the cops ****ed up big time. Unless he had gone crazy and had a death wish (which, to be honest isn't really unheard of for a 22 year old man), I have my doubts that he would have seriously attacked a police officer with a fake sword.

Oh wow. I noticed that one in the article associated with this topic but I didn't know it was like that. That's crazy seriously. There was a video of a man with a butter knife and after the police shot him dead... they had the nerve to say "Stay down" Why do they say stay down if they're already down for one even if they didn't know they were dead/dying. They actually put him in handcuffs, at this point they knew he were dead. Overall the Police are full of baby shit like a week old diaper. I feel bad for his relative having to witness that rather it was verbally or not. Police just don't give a fuck anymore.

That's ridiculous, he was obviously cosplaying. The sword was fake. I call bull shit on this entire thing, and what the police claimed. I'm so upset about this.

I was hearing some people complain recently about the carnage at Ferguson. Saying how bad the protestors were because some were rioting. Okay, yes, some trouble makers went there and were looting and there was some riot activity, but most of the people weren't trouble makers but just simply protesting. But yes, the Ferguson thing was a mess...but to get back to the point I want to make, I was hearing people complain about the happenings at Ferguson and was getting irked because...they didn't realize why Ferguson happened. They didn't understand that a straw broke a camel's back and social unrest happened like it did in Ferguson because, well, like we are discussing in this thread...a lot of police are extra hard on black suspects, a lot of them view them in a more negative light than other suspects, in general, and a lot of them really do get trigger happy with black suspects or are more inclined (and are quicker to) use force and restraint on black suspects.

The police generally look down on poorer minorities. This is true in just about every state in the US, and probably other places around the world too.

From media reports I've seen, they stated that he was shot in the back.
I wouldn't give a Darwin award for a guy who didnt even know he was going to die because a retard with a gun saw a "scary minority" with a fake weapon..
