One of the reasons why people feel comfortable at making jabs at Japanese people is because there are so few of them (in America). Japanese people in Japan might not care about this as much as Japanese people in America, because it doesn't effect them as much. I hate to be the one to say this, but it's because Japanese people in America know just how deep the scar of racism is, but Japanese people in japan don't. And here is why I think so:

it's really hard for Japan to cry racism portrayed in a gif when "No Korean or dogs allowed" is posted in broad day light in restaurant in Japan. Also, another reason why not much is done about racism portrayed in the West is probably also due to the fact that Japanese right wingers don't want to lose their right to be racist to other Asian people. And eye for an eye. There is even a debate going on whether to make hate speech illegal in Japan. Some racists just want to preserve their right to be offensive.

I don't find them weird in the slightest, if anything, J-TV (mostly game shows) are a riot! I constantly find myself strolling YouTube to watch them over and over. To me, yes, they're weird, but in a good way! I am VERY weird, so I can relate xD

Yes, sadly there's is a lot of ignorance and contempt towards Japan mostly among older Americans because of WWII. It seems manga and anime are becoming more acceptable with younger generations.

Honestly it's called ignorance. People don't take the time to learn about other cultures and therefore are ignorant and that ignorance breeds dumb dicks. I'm a Japanese history buff and after what I've studied I dislike major aspects of American culture. We could alot from other countries but every country has a bias against another country.

I get the sneaking suspicion that the Japanese love being weird so as to freak out westerners, that is when they aren't being extremely nice and hospitable. Generally speaking of course.

Why is that? Why are some people so anti-Japanese, and to be I'm not even Japanese but I feel pretty pissed about this. Racism is wrong in any degree doesn't matter who it's directed at, but it seems like poking fun and practically discriminating the "silly perverted land of the rising sun" is perfectly fine.

Maybe it's just me...

It's about ego, particularly ego inflation to compensate a deflated ego.

Perhaps this is not a case of specific racism, but general ego-inflation. "The Japanese" is just a nearby convenient target.

When some people want to feel better about themselves, they put someone else down in order to elevate themselves. It's ugly, and not too many people are self-aware and disciplined enough to keep their own ego tripping in check.

The "oh hey look at the silly Japanese" is fundamentally and functionally no different than "oh hey look at the nerds huddling in the chess club" or "oh hey look at the lame preppys" or " oh hey look at the dumb jocks"...

I laugh at the Japanese when they do something I think is funny.

I do not mind that they laugh at Americans when we do something they think is funny.

As the father says in Pride and Prejudice, "We exist to make sport of our neighbors, and to be made sport of in our turn."

That is part of the human condition.

Right, Mr. Turing?

Right, Mr. Hunter!

Well everyone thinks the average American is fat and lazy. We have shows that perpetuate that stereotype like Honey Boo Boo. Everyone's got their problems.

But it's true, (I'm American so I can say this)

I strongly disagree.

Offended isn't the right word.
