It's kind of cool, but would get pretty tedious when you need to multiply numbers that have 6's, 7's, and higher digits in them, because then you have to draw that many lines. It's essentially doing multiplication without having to memorize your basic multiplication tables; i.e. instead of knowing 8x8 =64, you draw two sets of 8 lines and manually count the 64 intersections. Drawing the sets at the angle they do takes care of the shift to the left when you have tens or hundreds digits.

I'd always just break it down in my head into bite size chunks, the lines seem kinda tedious as Hatoriku said.
