So I can only assume that there are many of you out there that are veterans of the anime world and have been longing for another Masterpiece to delve into? yknow, shows like cowboy bebop, ghost in the shell, death note, samurai champloo, baccano, clannad, here and there now and then, and all that jazz! now i know everyone has their own favorites, but when you think youve seen everything, we tend to be content with the basic plots and the average thrill. im looking for any anime that really really meant something to you, and is high class, but maybe its not as well known? old shows new shows who cares! tis not a debate just help some fellow anime fans in their quest to watch them all!

Though it's not exactly totally obscure, I thought Girls und Panzer was rather entertaining, given its premise and execution. It isn't the most underground anime out there, but alot of people don't know about it.
I also liked Love Lab. It was the most underrated show of its season.
Wandering Son is another show not many people know. It's probably the best one on this list, and is very intriguing if you're willing to be a little open minded.

But yeah, I totally feel you. I've only been watching anime for a little over two years and I already feel like I'm running out of "amazing" shows to run into…who knows, maybe I'm wrong.

Three anime masterpieces that I can think of from recent times are the Monogatari series, Kokoro Connect, Madoka Magica, and Beyond The Boundary. And like Shrrg said about Love Lab, it was very underrated. It is probably one of the least generic school girl/ romance/ shows I've seen in a little while. If you like comedy (the sexual type) a great one is Seitokai Yakuindomo. It is a masterpiece in that genre. You just have to look hard enough for that one special anime. Those masterpiece anime are always right under your nose.

i don't think that all anime has running out of idea to entertain the viewer...not all anime are consider as a masterpiece, its all about the viewers to label that anime was a masterpieces or not....u like or not its all ur....What a Masterpieces in an anime are its all about the story, the art or the music that make it a masterpieces for my opinion i think there's no such thing as a masterpieces that can be label for an any anime,it all about whatever ur like or not,if u watch this anime and then u said it was a masterpieces but what about other people that watching the same anime ur watching it are the also gonna said its was a masterpieces also...maybe some of it will agreed but some of it will disagreed it,coz there's always a hater in every anime fans..for me i just watch anime that i want to watch i like it or not its my opinion....

Well here's an objective masterpiece: Madoka Magica

Madoka Magica Japan Media Arts Festival 2011 Awards
Madoka Magica Animation Kobe 2011 Awards
Madoka Magica Tokyo Anime Fair 2012 Awards
Madoka Magica winning the Seiun Awards
Madoka Magica dominating the New Type Awards - New Type doesn't really have any critical weight but dominating the New Type Awards does show that Madoka Magica is extremely popular

Yes, it's an objective masterpiece. Haters gonna hate but it won't change the fact that it is masterpiece.

I disagree with every anime being a masterpiece, some I consider terrible even if I enjoy them. Everyone has their taste in anime and some you may like and some you'll hate, that said here are ones I personally consider top notch.

Based on what you listed I'd recommend:

Monster
Durarara
Trigun
Wolf's Rain
Psycho Pass
Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X
Full Metal Alchemist/ Brotherhood(there are 2 versions with alternate storylines)
Broken Blade

If you want to delve deeper into the crazy world of shonen:

Hunter x Hunter
One Piece
Magi
Log Horizon
Attack on Titan
Fairy Tail
Soul Eater
Hitman Reborn
Eyeshield 21
Gintama

Just to get you started. Enjoy.

A "masterpiece" eh? Oddly enough, I actually think that term is subjective. One man's masterpiece is another man's garbage I suppose. I'm not applying that to anything you listed, though some might apply it to the stuff i'll now list.

Anyway, the anime that i've seen which I consider masterpieces are as follows:

Anohana
the Aria series
Hidamari Sketch
Kemono no Souja Erin
Ping Pong the Animation
Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Soranowoto

Listed in alphabetical order

EDIT - Since a lot of people are mentioning Chihayafuru, i'll throw it an honorable mention. I was honestly very close to including it in my list, but I was halted by it's ending. That might change with another season though.

That's just my list. I'm sure there are many who will disagree, but what can ya do?

Steins;Gate- Time travel, comedy, tragedy. It's well written, well animated, and just awesome all around.
The Garden of Words- One of the most visually amazing anime movies I've seen.
Chihayafuru- Making a sports masterpiece out of an obscure card game is freaking amazing.
Monogatari series- The perfect marriage of SHAFT's weird style with an even weirder super dialogue heavy story.
Cross Game- Doesn't look that awesome but it's one of the best sports slice of life series I've ever seen.

I could go on and on and on listing titles. I think people pidgeonhole themselves into only trying certain types of anime or only going for the stuff with a lot of hype, and it can tend to make you think you've "seen it all already" when really you've barely scratched the surface of what's out there.

It's all subjective, and there's nothing odd or wrong about it. My ideas of masterpiece will definitely clash with others. You (generic) probably wouldn't like my tastes in music, but I don't expect everyone to. So some random shows I liked very much, those which don't seem to be often mentioned in top XX lists

* 5 cm per second and Voices of a Distant Star are movies, but still deserve mention.
* Arakawa Under the Bridge and Humanity Has Declined are good examples of absurd anime. Another not-quite-so-absurd would be The Eccentric Family
* Silver Spoon is what I would consider one of the the better slice-of-life.
