Does Crunch Roll Stream in HD and if so, how do I set it to only play in non-HD?

Yes, CR has HD for videos that allow it. If you go into your video settings, you can change what resolution you want the player to play at permanently.

I don't believe there is any way to specify the default resolution for devices, and each app will try to stream as high a quality as it can support, and your Internet connection will allow.

There is a secret menu on the Roku to limit your bit rate and effectively lower your bandwidth use and video quality.
You press the following buttons to access it:
- Home 5x
- REW 3x
- FF 2x

Secret Roku bandwith controls don't seem to work unless it's setting a max. I keep trying to force a higher stream and the CR app does whatever it pleases. Works fine for other apps like Amazon instant video. My connection rather sucks at about 4.8 Mbps but that gets me 720p in my other channels but not CR.

Even borrowing a neighbor's 20mbps connection (with permission) my video shifts around, it's running on dual channel wireless n so I doubt wireless dropout is the issue. It's pretty glaring when the subtitles double in size and it goes to such poor quality small text like the furigana on Log Horizon OP1 are nothing but a blur.

I should layoff the anime and go back to working on platinum for KamiPara.

SRLRacing's reply does say, "limit your bit rate", and Purpledy16 was asking about how to play in non-HD.

Even if the app itself offered a fixed bit rate option, the most likely outcome would be your stream stopping to buffer at times.

Try adding the following channel to your Roku and see what results you get:

Thanks for linking the private channel. Results are actually a little better than testing from my tablet at 5.1mbps for my DSL and up to 40mbps with the neighbor's WiFi.

As for my comment it doesn't seem to work, I just wanted to share my experience since my other channels will obey the bandwith override while the CR doesn't, again in my experience only. Even last night Aka me ga Kill kept dropping to what looked at best a 360 image after the ED and I'd have to quit and restart playback to up the resolution on the next episode. Never stuttered once.
