Old? There's nobody old here (looks around). See you at Anime USA in DC in a little over a week! In my art classes the other's eyes light up when I tell them I quit working so I could take art classes, watch anime, & play video games.

Remember, treat older otakus kindly. You are going to be one yourself in a few years.

Sounds like you just went rogue, and are doing whatever you want. That's awesome! You're living the dream, man.

Not quite 35 yet, but I'm sure when I am, i'll still be an otaku. Sounds retarded but I really feel anime has helped me keep my sanity over the last 15 years, through high school, college, med school, and now in my last year of residency I still find myself needing to watch at least 1-2 episodes of any anime everyday. ....I don't know if I'd be who I am today if not for anime (yes, pathetic, I agree)... lol.

The more mundane reason I retired was due to health. I just decided to do the things I always wanted to do, but never had time for. I had never taken any art classes before. My portraits are getting good enough that others in church are asking if I could do one for them. They aren't anywhere near professional level, but I try to put lots of emotion & feeling in them. All of them so far are for my friends who are over 70. One guy has 8 stents in his heart, and another has two kinds of cancer. Their wives were ecstatic. Isn't that a purpose of art, though, to communicate emotion & feeling to others?

By then I predict the art will be so realistic you can literally believe they're in front of you.

It's taking too long.
Projectors have tiny screens with decent pixels built into them, VR helmets could already do so much better with the current technology.

I feel like I've always gotten along better with the 30+ crowd on here. They tend to appreciate shows for what they are instead of being too involved with Otaku culture and all that shipping shenanigans. Some of the people who's opinions I respect the most are actually in the 50+ crowd.

I wish I had real life anime fan friends who were like some of the older folks on here. Instead I hang out with people where I end up in stupid arguments where they try to convince me that Kuroko's Basketball is a gay anime. Just because you spend hours a day fantasizing about shipping something doesn't make it ****ing yaoi FFS, ugh! (Sorry, I literally had this argument today so it's on my mind haha)

I'm usually oldest the group of anime fans so I can try to know the feeling. There are some anime fans who are 30+. Just gotta keep looking and find that crowd.
