For me, it would most likely have to be this:

The five Sailor Soldiers were infiltrating the Dark Kingdom's lair, and one-by-one four of them died to ensure that Usagi Tsukino reached the final battle. To make matters worse, Sailor Moon herself was a scared, dependent crybaby who was too reluctant to fight evil, and so depended on her friends to save her. Killing off all of her friends in a series of heroic self-sacrifices not only demonstrated their bravery and heroism against impossible odds, but also cut Sailor Moon away from her dependence on her friends, forcing her to grow up and take responsibility for herself while keeping their spirits inside herself.

this was a shocker, i never finished the anime and i never thought they would die

Netero's death was pretty good. He was awesome all the way through his fight with Mereum.

If we are going for straight mainly deaths then I'd also have to say when Vegeta sacrifices himself when he first fights majin buu from DBZ.

Also, Lelouches death from Code Geass was beyond manly considering he planned his own death.

Definitely Netero for me, the chairman in Hunter. Simply amazing, sacrificing himself to save mankind killing three super villains in the process without them even knowing. He had the knowledge to anticipate all that happening. Completely selfless and badass.

Taro's death in The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer. Taro wished that Hanako would live, Hanako decided that she was doing what she wanted to not for her late boyfriend but for herself, and everyone turned up to the next fight in funeral attire. Heartbreaking as fuck.

Spike from Cowboy Bebop, I still remember that at least a few times a month for the last 15+ years (If there was a manga, I never read it, and still assume hes dead, lol)

still brings a grin to my face...course thats prolly not the appropriate reaction lol.

Prolly Wolfwood's from Trigun also, pretty much for the same reason hahah.

Takashi from Akira being shot in the head was pretty extreme, but I liked it although I did not agree with it.
