Personally, the older I got, especially in High School I became more private with my love for Anime and Drama's and the only people who knew were my siblings and mother.

This Forum is for anime/drama fans who are still in the closet, talk about why you don't want to be public with it and if you were in the closet what made you finally express yourself freely?

i talk to many but i don't know anyone personally so they don't need to know the details of whatever i get up to.

I kept quiet about it in high school because people used it as a way to pick on people. I couldn't show any signs of weakness because my friends got embarrassed when they saw me getting picked on. My friends were loyal and stuck to me at all times so I wanted to do all I could to avoid bullying and make their lives easier.

I've stopped now because liking anime seems to be the norm in university - especially a university that is known for it's computer game degrees.

I know a LOT of people who love Anime... but at the same time I know a LOT of people who doesn't like it. I'm open whit my Fandom to those who like it......... But to those who don't like, well... They probebly have no idea that I like Anime.

I generally don't talk about it unless it comes up somehow. Most of my friends know I'm into anime. They poke fun, but it's not something that makes people see me much differently.

People don't know me all that well.

I feel like I should sit my friends and family down,

"Mom, Dad, family and friends. There is something you should know. I have been living a lie for the past few years. I have hid a part of myself from you, and I want to come out to you now. I hope you can accept my lifestyle choices and still continue to love me.

I......I'm a weaboo."

I'll then only refer to myself as Shinichi-sama and ask them to prepare my bento for me on a daily basis.

I don't talk about it with my friends, because I know they aren't into it. But also I have been watching just couple of months so far, and I haven't been this much into it for very long. I think I will mention about it to some of my more open minded friends when I next time see them.

I'm not bothered to say that I watch anime. But I wouldn't purposely bring it up & don't really want the conversation to go much further since tbh anime is pretty hard to sell to the uninitiated. Even moreso now I've watched enough that I don't notice/ignore some of anime's particular idiosyncrasies that weird people out so much.

Case in point: I was talking about what I've been watching lately to someone & mentioned spice & wolf. I tried to describe it as a really good romantic drama (which it is). They then looked it up & retorted "it's about a 15 year old furry *awkward stare*." I didn't try to defend that.

I don't really share it with a lot of people. It's mostly because people (the ones I know anyways) have the mindset that anime = naruto or hentai.
One of my closest friends is a fan of anime too, and neither of us knew because we were both in the closet fans, lol. We didn't really tell each other until last year, and we had already been friends for like three years.

My parents know, but I don't really talk to them about the shows or anything. I hope to make friends in the future who are into it though, because it's one of my big hobbies, but if not it's all right. It's something fun I can do on my own.

Usually if someone asks if I watch it, i'll usually just say I've watched it here and there. I pretty much under play how much of a fan I am, lol. Unless it's someone I think I can trust or something then I'll tell them. I just don't want to get into a whole discussion about it, especially with someone who isn't a fan because I don't know how they'll react.

Most people I know are aware of the fact that I watch anime and are cool with it. I have no problems letting people know I watch it though, if they want to rip into me for that alright that's their choice. Oddly enough though when I show up to band practice now the other members are talking about the newest episode of Attack on Titan and Space Dandy.

Used to but at some point you got to realize to not give a fuck about what other people think about you.

I don't tell anyone that I like anime unless I know for sure that they like it too. I also don't let people go on my Netflix account because they will see a bunch of anime. I feel like I will always be in the closet. I have only told 5 people that I like anime in the 6 years that I have been watching anime.

I'm still sort of in the Closet. I mean, my mom and dad clearly know since they hear Japanese language coming from my room hahah!
A few of my friends also know I am, because they're also fans, and well... I don't mind if people know. There's no issue. Some people just don't care for it, but I do, and that's what matters, right? ^_^ Can't hide it forever, though...

Too much negative baggage attached to watching cartoons.
Better to say you enjoy watching the Kardashians.
