Eto, where do I start? Oh yeah, a rumor is going on around high school about some dude doing it with a chick in the restroom stalls. People were speculating and conversating about rumors like this all the time, especially during lunch period. But this got me thinking, how fast do rumors spread? Rumors like this tend to spread like wildfire, only without any firefighters to extinguish it. On another note, it reminds me how gullible students are when it comes to these subjects. Like, students gulp this up immediately without any evidence whatsoever to prove this. It makes me want to try to confirm the validity of it before believing rumors like this so wholeheartedly. But you gotta admit, it does make for some great drama.

Anyways, do you believe in high school rumors? Why or why not? At least give me a paragraph explaining so, because I don't want any lazy responses. But you can take a go at trying to be funny.

Gossip is chasing smoke and catching shadow.

When I was in HS, there were always rumors/gossip - that sort of thing. Knowing how petty, mostly untrue, and many times hurtful these things were, I didn't believe any of it until I actually saw something happening. And considering these were all created by spiteful teenagers with nothing better to do? No thanks. I had different areas of interest than listening or starting crap.

Yes. Rumors do spread rather quickly, but you shouldn't get involved in them if it doesn't involve anyone you know or rather you shouldnt get involved at all. Just keep to yourself. Did I believe in them? Not really. But to solve a rumor you have to ask the people involved. Though it may be a bit uncomfortable.

If I was to follow the American school system I'd have started High School this year. I've heard plenty of rumors and I'm certain 90% of hem are unfounded. It is amazing how fast rumors spread, one student was out for a day and rumors spread that he had knocked up his girlfriend and been expelled. Next day, he walks in and says that he had had a cold the day before.

I think that was one of the most fascinating parts of high school. A friend of mine missed several weeks of school because of a family emergency but some people made some stuff up. Some said she got deported and others said she got pregnant and had to go to Mexico.
It turns out a family member got sick and she had to go to Mexico.

Sooner or later you'll imagine it. Even Spongebob says so.

As someone who has once been the topic of gossip, no. Absolutely not. Gossip is nothing but rumors spread by immature preteens/teenagers who think it would be a good idea to start drama and ruin someone's life, since they're so bored with their own lives. All of this "this guy likes guys" and "that girl stalks people" and "that person does drugs" stuff just gets on my nerves. What gets on my nerves even more is the fact that people actually believe that stuff. I mean, are people really that dumb?

In Junior High one day I got a huuuuuge pat on the back from a bunch of guys who honestly I couldn't stand and wondered why. Well it seems a rumor was going round that a close female friend and I took off almost a month of school together to "get to know one another". Coincidentally we both were out the exact length of time. Well it was a real pain getting people to believe the truth but a few weeks later we were old news so it didn't matter anymore. She told me the rumor made it easier for her since the morons always trying to get with her stopped when thinking she was with me. The funny part is we never ever even went on a date. She was overworked and came down with mono. I had walking pneumonia with other complications. There is no truth to school rumors at all.

damn, all the rumors escaped me. but i easily made and lost people to hang out with because of my personality. i maybe was just never interested to know anything extra so forgot.

During the first half of my high school career, I didn't believe in rumors, because from what I do remember, there weren't that many rumors. And if there was, I knew for a goddamn fact they weren't true or I would do an investigation if it was some I cared about by going to source and asking them what's up. However though; during my freshman year, I created a rumor that eventually destroyed my social life and had a rumor or two created by people who have betrayed me ending the last half of my high school career. I won't get into what the rumor about myself were about or the one I created.

Honestly though, if you hear a rumor, confront the source (or the person if you know them well enough on terms that you care about them) or just ignore them.

A rumor is merely a rumor. By definition it is "a currently circulating story or report of uncertain or doubtful truth." or "to be circulated as an unverified account". It is something that has no proof behind it. Therefor it shouldn't be something that is believed. A rumor is usually just someone crying for attention, whether it be negative or positive. Rumors are just words, no true meaning. That's why they're rumors and not facts.

Back then, I was never really interested in rumors and hearsay. That still has not changed.

Apparently there were some rumors about me but I didn't care enough to take them seriously. They sort of just fade away and people forget all about them after a few months if they aren't continuously spreading and being mentioned all the time.

Nope never believed rumors and didn't help the chain of spreading. When I heard a rumor, I ignore it. Most were about who was sleeping with whoever or who's dating who, someone's pregnant, this person is gay or lesbian or bi, their home situation. Words hurt and scar people. Rumors are just horrible and can cause a person to snap and do harm to themselves or others. But there are times where I stood up for a person too if I knew the person they are spreading rumors about and shut them up quick. Some just never grow up or just have to start a rumor to feel better about themselves or look cool in front of others or they are just plain vicious. What ever the reason, words hurt and no one should ever have to go through that.
