I hate hard hats.
Do you know what they are designed for?
Protecting the brain, yes?
Yes, protecting the brain from horizontal impact.
not vertical.
if a brick falls on a hard hat; that worker is dead.
but if they walk into a brick wall then their stupid brain is safe because they were wearing a helmet designed for idiots!

Had a hammer fall on my head and I lived to tell about it. It dropped from a two story scaffolding, about twenty feet. This was back when you could have a hard-hat made of aluminum.
I eventually had to get one made of plastic.
The interesting thing is that most of the time I worked construction was building municipal swimming pools.

I feel like you just have something against those construction workers who wear those hard hats..

Mmm, now why is that?

Must have been nice to have a proper helmet.

Actually I hate motorcycle helmets, too.
they're only tested in one spot and they won't protect your neck!
If you fall off a moving vehicle, you are dead.
It's pointless and they obstruct your vision.
It's stupid to have laws on wearing them.

Not sure what to think about this! A fair point I guess? If you had the option to wear one though, most people probably would.. just to be safe, if that makes sense.

Of course horizontal, it's designed to protect the head as you're walking through areas with low hanging equipment and materials.
You're likely to get hit by a bunch of bricks or a steel girder, so there's not much hope in survival.
Go get a kevlar helmet, see if it fairs any better.

I can say that hard hats Do save lives from vertical falling objects, as i was hit by a stack of falling roof tiles. Anyone who says different is an idiot or has no brain worth protecting in the first place.
