"most hard hats currently in use are made of plastics, the hot and humid weather condition in Hong Kong may drastically lower their impact resistance function and shorten their service lives, that also means the international standards may not be adequate here. Although the number of incidents caused by falling objects are not great, but they are always fatal when happened,"

So after having a stack of roof tiles fall from a second story height and land on my head, shoulder and left leg i should be dead?
because the last time i checked i only had:

Small skull fracture
Broken collar bone
Broken shoulder
and a 12 inch gash down the back of my leg

The fact is that hat saved my life if i hadn't been wearing it id be living in a box six feet under

So hard hats may be a pain in the ass to wear but they do save lives

What they don't do is give you money for the time off you have after shit like that happens

That survey didn't include you.
A better hat would have done more for you.

Thing is there is always a high risk of death on sites weather its Falling from height, Falling objects, Tools you use and the tools using them tools, some PPE is down right laughable but some do really make a difference.

I'm wiling to say the standard hard hat is fine for short buildings but shouldn't be relied on as any form of protection outside that until we get different standards in head protection.

Id say your right, outside 3 stories high that object is gonna go through that hat and probably the rest of you like a knife through butter but anything lower than that its fair game

from someone who wears hard hats 12 hours a day 6 days a week, I dunk and weave threw steel maybe I should post a pic of all the marks on my hard hat that could of been huge cuts on my head steels sharp and could hurt but I walked away fine. now to cover falling objects your expecting to much if you think a brick from 25 stories should fall and hit your hard hat and just walk away. the aluminum ones are heavier than plastic so if you've never worn one for 12 hours it will make your neck cramp or get tired they have to make the best support as light as possible and that's plastic. we cant all run around wearing one of these on the job site lol

also moter cycle helmets are only rated for 25 mph crashes does that mean you shouldn't drive over 25 last I checked a scooter will blow past 25 so like I said they build the best protection they can that has to be light weight so ill wear my plastic hard hat until someone comes up with a better design.
