Previous posters have enumerated some outstanding eps re Ghost In The Shell franchise (childhood memories of Motoko Kusanagi at the antique store re hospitalization of male child and her interaction with him)....very poignant, moving moments, Clannad, the After Story (terrific male weepie), Katanagatari (last episode is very moving, as someone has pointed out already).

Time of Eve: This show has 6 stories and all are interconnected as well as very moving. I can't pick a favorite episode because all have their empathetic merits as well as a certain foreboding atmosphere about AI interactions with(out) human interference.

Five Centimeters/Second: one of my favs account show is semi-autobiographical just about all the way through. Only the names and locations have been changed to protect the guilty.

Flowers of Evil: uncertain of episode number but it's the final 2 minutes of the episode where Sawa Nakamura and Takao Kasuga reek havoc in the classroom with scrawling on the walls, blackboard, floor, with desks askew. It's very freeing to watch that pandemonium as 2 individuals remove the constraints and shackles of conformity and let their egos manifest in creative ways. That 2 minutes has been the most freeing experince I have ever had watching anime (comes from living 50+ years trying to live up to someone else's or my own perceived expectations I allowed to be placed upon the self before rejecting most of that a few years ago).

Attack on Titan, episode 19: The scene were Levi and squad are moments ahead on horseback racing through the forest of tall trees with the main protagonist female Titan close behind in hot pursuit of Eren. Watching the interactions (though overacted by the VAs) of Eren and the calvary members coming to terms whether he should act on his own or trust the squad even though the outcome of the latter seems bad. This is a moment, trust issues, one will encounter often in real life. I thought this part of the anime did a stellar job conveying handling a difficult life-changing decision with zero information or analysis available to afford an informed nod of approval.

Cowboy Bebop: the Movie: the entire show was a great watch. Most of the original cast returned and were cast in half-way believable roles given the storyline. Excellent direction and social commentary for the times. I was impressed with the use of Arabs as characters in the series. This group is seldom portrayed (at least over here in the US of A) in shows. It's as though directors over here fear jihadists will appear in cover of darkness, sneak into their homes, and cut their genitals off as reprisal for inadvertently offending Allah. It's OK to portray other ethnicities, for better or worse, in situations but Arabs shown in anything cinematic is/are a rarity indeed. Also, the musical score within is top notch. Yoko Kanno can do no wrong.

Kill la Kill, episode 24: chaotic as Hell but it all came together nicely. My most memorable scene was near the end as Ryuko is re-entering the Earth's atmosphere with Senketsu acting as a flame retardant. His mention to her about moving on with her Life and discarding the old sailor suit (aka coming to terms with her separation anxiety from her mentor) is an aspect of living every one of us will encounter when it's time to let go of that special someone be it a parent, best friend, sibling, pet, etc. and move on with our lives, for better or not.

There are a few others but I don't wish to spend the rest of the am hours posting them.

Out of every show you've seen, which episode was the best?
You can use any criteria you like.
I'd also like at least a brief explanation of why you think that particular episode is the best.
You can go into as much detail as you like.

I'll start off with the episode in One piece where Nami accepts Luffy's help.
My explanation will be simply because the scenes are burned into my memory.

So, choose your episode.

Thats a good one and the first one that popped up in my head, but this question really isn't fair. Too many to choose from.

This may seem a bit odd to those unfamiliar with the series, but I'll go with Episode 43 and Episode 100 of Shugo Chara. To me, the former captures the character development the series is known for perfectly, especially with Amu's burst of self-confidence and Utau regaining a true understanding of herself; this episode also features a conflict that can only be resolved by the entire main cast - including Utau - working together and that highlights each member's individuality and role within in the group. To me, it's a good way of showing the progress the characters have made close to the halfway point.

Episode 100 takes a different approach, but still manages to capture that same signature character development. Rather than focusing on an external conflict and a bit of concentrated self-reflection, this episode brings the series' subtle symbolism to the forefront and integrates it with character development. After witnessing Ikuto's backstory via the first literal application of the key-lock dynamic and learning what makes him tick, the episode brings forth everything the series has been working toward and brings it down on the audience (well, on me at least) in one fell swoop, starting with the line "That's not the person Ikuto wants to be," or something like that. Then it just follows up with character development and character-based symbolism in tangible form, all tightly wrapped up in one majestic package that is practically overflowing with content. Again, that's just in my eyes; I don't like hyping things up just to have them fail to live up to expectations in others' eyes.

And once again I find myself writing out a lot more than I'd planned. I thought I was doing a decent job of restraining myself, but apparently I wasn't. Someday . . .

Haikyu!! Ep.16

Winners and Losers

While the whole tournament arc is probably the most amazing string of episodes I've ever seen in an anime, this one particularly stands out as probably the best single episode of the whole arc.

Season 2 Ep 15 of Magi.

It's the one where the head wizard is explaining how he came to be in the position he is in now and what are his motivations. The entire flashback sequence is just so good. By the end of it, you don't know even know if he is wrong even though he's doing very wrong things.

The last episode of season 1 of Code Geass, the scene at the end. God, I've watched it so many times that I remember what they say in Japanese lol. It's just so tense, and dramatic and emotional and I love it. Not to mention I watched it when it was still ongoing.
