This.

As for my contribution, not so much an invention but more a discovery.

Cold fusion.

I had to try my best not to give a smart ass answer it was very difficult

since this was a energy company.....

I said " a non toxic/environmentally damaging renewable, highly effective and marketable source of energy. That could profit for the industries, a good service for the clients and decrease the impact on the environment. It would also be important that it is easily sourced.

he seemed super pleased by the answer haha

It then made me think ,what others could come up with?

Good answer for a power company you pretty much described a cold fusion reactor.

It would vary. Time Machine is a smartass remark really. It satisfies the conditions of the question, but is the obvious answer.

I would probably go with FTL travel or a drug that allows for a significant useful extension of the human lifespan, like doubling it. FTL travel because it would open the galaxy to us, similar to how the world changed (at least for the Western World) with Columbus' discovery of North America. It would be a profound impact on us really. As would living at least twice as long. Not just for what we could do, but how it would change how we even work. Today there is generally steady upward movement in a company because people are constantly retiring. At least at the start of this, there would be a long break in period of stagnation in the workforce. Which might not be a bad thing either as it would allow one to really know one's job before progressing.

For an energy company though, I would go with Marketable Fusion power. It would change the energy industry really. Since, at least to start, it would be similar to Nuclear Power in that it would likely be generated by large power plants rather than something like Solar which is often micro generated. Fusion has the capacity to theoretically bring down energy costs while allowing an energy company to maintain a level of profitability that allows for modernization and maintenance of their grid. Something today's power sources are struggling to do, especially with the advent of micro generation.

I would be hesitant to use something like a machine to turn C02 into Oxygen. As the interviewer could just look at you and say "Isnt that what a tree is?". Which is not really what you meant, but it would be difficult to rebut at that point.

Well i don't really think that FTL travel is possible. Can't go faster than the speed of light. Think warp travel would be more obtainable. I mean since nothing can travel faster than the speed of light we'd have to do something like bending space or creating a warp bubble that would allow us to travel faster without breaking the rules. Like riding on a moving sidewalk at an airport.

Grow-A-Mate

You plant seeds in the ground, and in 2-3 months you have a boyfriend/girlfriend.

Forget cuddle pillows and waifus. These would be exact clones of human beings, meaning physically, emotionally, and mentally they are humans.

You'd have selection like Chia Pets or hair dye. Choose what you want most. Best part is, they can eat by absorbing sunlight.

You'd have the ability to create your perfect mate, any body type, race, height, weight. Anything.

The invention of an Avatar, am I right?

Long ago the 7 continents lived together in harmony, but then everything changed when the ****** ****** of ******* attacked.
Only the Avatar master of all four elements can stop them, but when the world needed him most he... uhm... wasn't invented?
A few months ago my brother and I INVENTED the new avatar, an airbender named Aang.
And although he has a lot to learn, I believe Aang can CHANGE THE WORLD.

I would have to say the wand Weather Wizard (DC) made enabling him to control weather. People will never die of thirst and crops will never be ruined by weather ever again. Of course you would be able to do a lot more but those two things pop in my head automatically.
