How screwed would you be without subtitles in anime?

I ask this because a lot of people say they can't watch subbed anime because it's difficult to keep up reading. They watch English dubbed anime and that eliminates that problem.

But let's say Crunchyroll suddenly decided to stop putting subtitles on every anime series here. That means only Japanese audio, no English or whatever your native language is subtitles. Would you still be able to get what's going on?

I didn't start watching anime like I do now until I already started learning Japanese. It wasn't like "Oh well I like anime might as well learn the language." Nope. Other way around. If anything, anime has helped me immensely in retaining a lot of stuff, even the most silly stuff, like "oneechan", "oniisan" , "senpai" or how to count. I'm not fluent in Japanese whatsoever, but I get the general gist of things because I have a working vocabulary in it.

Best way to put it. If I look away from the screen for a second, 90% of the time I still understand the sentence.

I'm sure at least most of you can speak at least some Japanese, but how good or bad would you fare without any subtitles at all?

Oh I wouldn't do very well at all. I mean I would understand some of the more frequently used words in anime but all in all would not understand at all what is being said.

I think I would be able to follow things that are going on in some anime. But I wouldn't understand conversations and that would suck! I love subs.

Oh wow, another person like me! I didn't watch any anime in Japanese until half a year into my first Japanese course. I learned my number kanji from Bleach, actually. With where I am now (4th year student), I can understand simpler shows without subtitles (I watch Fairy Tail without them, and I'm reading the Nozaki-kun manga in Japanese), but more complex/technical stuff I wouldn't get. Stuff like Fate/Zero is still mostly out of my league (Gilgamesh speaks like someone who came through a time machine, for starters).

I wouldn't mind either way, it would motivate me to get back onto cramming Japanese. If the dubs are good, then I could also get by on those. Subs are really helpful in getting the context of some words so it would set me back a slight bit on that ground.

I would be lost if there was no subtitles.
Japanese is so different from English and the Romance languages, that I can't pick up words.

I'd only understand simple phrases and make conclusion based on speech and picture.

I guess I would transfer to Funimation's Elite Service and watch their dubs there because if I had the choice to watch any dub, I'd watch Funi's dubs. I mean, I watch both subs and dubs already, so it wouldn't be a problem.

I remember that a while ago, there was a trailer about the movie When Marnie was here and the video was not subtitles yet everyone in CR knew what the trailer was talking about. I was like: well a lot of time in CR have its pros... http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2014/07/16-1/video-ghiblis-when-marnie-was-there-gets-an-extended-trailer

I have understand a guy talking Japanese talking yet Japanese is something that I would not put in my curriculum yet.

I never watch dubbed anime but my Japanese isn't great. I wouldn't understand even 50% of it but I would get some things.

I wouldn't understand much at all, however I do occasionally have that glorious moment when I look away from the screen and still get the jist of what they're saying

I can't follow long strings of dialogue so I'd be completely screwed on knowing anything that's going on with the story.

I know a ton of simple phrases but I don't think that it would do me a lot of good

I don't think I could understand more than 10%, and that 10% would just be common phrases and such things
