I have Windows 8, and while I hated it at first, I eventually got used to it. Looking at the press conference and messing with the trial version earlier, I'm really digging the changes with 10:

-We all know the start menu is back, but even better is the return of that trusty search bar at the bottom. Adding a search icon to the taskbar was a neat idea, too.

- Programs that run in the tablet environment now open in a standard Windows form that you can move, revise and close like any other window. About time.

- Create and save customized "desktops" similar to Ubuntu (for those that are familiar), sort of like saving the position of open windows, making it easier to go back to. As someone that uses two monitors and does a ton of multitasking, this is REALLY helpful.

I have a good feeling that the roller coaster trend Microsoft has had going since XP will continue with 10 (meaning it's going to be good).

It's a shame that they have to waste millions of dollars in production of an OS that they think will be good and just isn't. They do have a winning formula and they choose to not use it. XP was awesome, Vista departed far enough and had so many bugs it bombed, They combined the Newness of Vista with the functionality and ease of use of XP and got Windows 7. They release Windows 8, which always seemed to me to be an all-in-one OS that they can put on any device. And strangely 8 (at least to me) has an vague Android look about it with Microsoft's spin. Now they're looking to combine the newness of Windows 8 and work in what made Win 7 popular and call it Windows 10. I'll pass on Windows 11 if the trend continues.

Despite a decade of empirical evidence, Microsoft has abandoned their last chance of survival by releasing yet another even numbered Windows version.

RIP.

I just built my gaming pc exactly one year ago and i purposely bought windows 7 and not 8 for two big reasons, the first reason is that the start button was perfect so why get rid of it, and second i absolutely hate tablets and smart phones so i was not going to support that crappy os coming to pc's.
If you ask why i hate tablets and smartphones (i have never owned either and never will) its because both are over priced garbage and more importantly you cant use a smartphone they way you should beable to because they have bandwith capps at low levels. If i buy a 1080p smart phone and have to pay 80$ a month i better beable to stream 1080p video on it as much as i want whenever i want. /end rant\

You have a laptop?

I have Windows 8 and I very much miss the "traditional" Start button. I like seeing that it's being brought back.

Microsoft have said that there's going to be some sort of free way to get Windows 10 if you have Windows 8.

I dont own a laptop, just a desktop i built from the ground up connected to my 50 inch tv. I would not own a laptop for the same reasons as a tablet or smartphone, its under powered and over priced. You physically cannot build a laptop that is as powerful in gaming as my desktop, and to get one even close you would have to spend double what i payed to build mine. Im not looking down on people who use laptops or tablets, if you dont game at high to maximum settings and dont care about being able to watch anime/tv at 1080p it would be a waste to have a pc like mine, but if you do like to game/watch 1080p video and buy a laptop or tablet to do so on its a terrible decision.

So, they took basic functions off from Windows 8 that was one of the reasons people think it was trash, reinvent them in 10 and call it progress? No thanks.

I think the only reason that makes gamers eventually to switch to 10 or more from 7 is the newer DirectX support, unless 7 gets the support as well.

Well my first thought like many people is that Microsoft doesn't know how to count, but we knew this already...

My actual thoughts were something along the lines of thank god that they are going to make it a free upgrade from 8 to 10, at least that's what it seems like. My desktop is still running 7 so I don't think I'll upgrade...I like 7.

Also seems like they want to copy Mac being at OSX so they are at MSX essentially.

They've said that there's going to be some sort of free upgrade system for some Windows users. According to roumers everyone whit a Windows 8.1 key can upgrade for free.
