Man creating this because there are some things that people are excited for that if you really think about it are just terrifying. I mean take teleporters for instance. Sounds great right. Disappear from one place and get instantly taken to another site, but when you think about it it's much different. I mean it's gonna work more like a fax machine. Take a blueprint of yourself and sends that through the air. Then uses that blueprint to put you back together using atoms found locally in the area. If the old you isn't disintegrated then there is a copy of you walking around. I mean it's just terrifying that you'll die each time to you use it.

Also the flying car. People are really excited about this one too until you realize that all the problems we have with current cars will be made much worse when you get them off the ground. I mean you run out of gas on the ground just pull over and walk to get some more. Run out of gas a couple hundred feet off the ground!! What do you do then?

Any other ideas about the future that terrify you?

I was thinking something along the lines of the head gear from the movie Strange Days. where they could record all of your sensory perceptions and then someone else could 'load' it and experience what you did vicariously. That idea in itself isn't so bad, but the next logical step would be something that could monitor and record your thoughts, especially the ones that you would ordinarily never let reach the real world by speech or action.

Any and all biological and chemical and nuclear weaponry. In a world with enough active nukes in existence to destroy the entire earth's landmass (http://gizmodo.com/5899569/how-many-nukes-would-it-take-to-blow-up-the-entire-planet), I feel kind of like we perpetually have a gun in our mouth.

But even if you place some faith in humanity that we're not going to unleash these things on each other at some point, there's another frightening thing out there. Game Theory, the youtube channel, made some mention of the game Watch Dogs. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNPXoydz_zQ). The game points out a lot of real life security threats that we face as a technologically advanced society. Social networking, online banking, machinery run by computers, facial recognition software, invasive predictive advertising using personal data... There are so many frightening facets of technology, and (at risk of sounding like a conspiracy theorist) probably a lot that the general public is unaware of. Sometimes I want to go live in the mountains and chop wood and read old books all day long, and try to forget what mankind has wrought.
