I've seem to have played almost everything at this point. But I haven't been able to find something that holds my attention for too long.
I like games with good character creation, combat and I don't care much for graphics.
My pc is strong enough so please feel to list any MMO that you think would be awesome, or that maybe you're playing and enjoy at the moment.

Know any that don't break the bank like EVE does o.O?

I'm playing "path of exile".
I like how it's not pay to win (even in PVP).
it also isn't too taxing on my Australian copper wired internet.

FFXIV is $12 - $15 a month, but it's so so so much fun. I picked it up on a whim last April, and I've been playing it a little every day since then. The best part is that you can max level every single class on one character, so you never need to worry about making alts. And the community is generally super friendly and nice, and you can be as independent as you want, or play with friends. I'm on Jenova, which is the smallest US server, and everyone there has been great so far.

I recommend either Wildstar or if you haven't tried Tera Online that one is pretty good too.

Here's some good ones that keep me coming back:

World of Warcraft [Monthly Fee]
Guild Wars 2 [Initial Game Purchase Fee then NO Monthly fee]
Tera Online [Free, Can Subscribe w/mo fee for Perks]
Star Wars The Old Republic [Free, Can Subscribe w/mo fee for Perks]

The above are my main MMOs I jump between depending on my mood. I have played other but they have either been too buggy [Wildstar] for my taste or just been bad games in general.

Yeah zomgenius is right, I ended up trying out FFXIV on a friends account and it was fun. I didn't get to explore the smaller details like UI, technical fighting, and general movements/clipping. From what I saw the community is friendly and don't mind chatting it up. It really reminded me of my WoW where I'd sit on the fountain in front of the bank in Stormwind and just have random conversation with other players on literally anything. It's a cool game.

Mabinogi http://mabinogi.nexon.net/ - I don't know how to describe this. It's a very skill based game in the sense you use a lot of the ingame skills almost all the time.
Maplestory http://maplestory.nexon.net/ - 2d platformer with several events going on every so often. It's by the same company that does Mabinogi but very much different.
Path of (the?) Exile https://www.pathofexile.com/ - I haven't played this one much, but it's sort of like Diablo, I guess.
World of Warcraft http://us.battle.net/wow/en/ - Tons of lore, tons of players (some good and some bad) and a subscription fee. It's fun, at least in my opinion.

No-one has mentioned The Secret World yet? I've played it on and off since it's release and it's still for me the best contemporary MMORPG with wonderfully crafted story arcs, an interesting 'skills' tree, a solid 1p experience and luscious graphics (if that's your thing). It's also dark and steeped with all things Cthulhu-esque. Tokyo is a major focus of the game too.

I would recommend you to play The Last Stand - Dead Zone. This is an action game, build, fight, scavenge and survive against infected and humans alike in this action strategy RPG. 350 days have passed since the initial outbreak and you are one of the few remaining in the ruins of Union City, now known only as the Dead Zone.
