OK let me ask you this. WHY do you as an Asian think that other Asians around you desire to be "White"? What makes us different from you? Who cares if someone has blue or green eyes? Is appearance everything in life (of course not)? Sounds like to me you're one of the many that want these traits, you sound angry and insecure about you being an Asian, do you deep down feel that way? I'm just curious maybe I am wrong.

Lol please.

This is something that simply thrives in the Asian community, and I mention this not because I am insecure, but rather because many Asians cannot be happy with the way they are, and this annoys me. I was brought up to be happy with my features, and to see so many other Asians really like another race's features over their own to the point of having surgery to change it is nonsense.

Why be something else you're not, and why make it okay in your society to just tell your people "just get plastic surgery" instead of making them content with their own unique features? By doing this, you are basically telling them "you're not good enough with your natural race's looks" and "your race is no as attractive as another". There is going to be a serious problem (there already is in fact) with self confidence without plastic surgery.

This is a major problem in places for example, like South Korea where the plastic surgery is the highest in the world and people get the surgery to look more "Western"...Aka, white. Did you know, several foreign teachers in South Korea said that most of their students in class had no idea what it was like to love someone regardless of how they looked and majority said they wanted plastic surgery to look "Western"? That is pretty sickening.

Don't believe me? Just look at countless reviews, articles and whatnot. Written by other Asians, non-Asians, foreigners of all races in Asian countries...etc.

I am interested in this, because as a person of Asian ethnicity this interests me.

nah i completely agree with you, it's sad to hear about these things, asians are so pretty, I just don't understand...

people from the Eastern half of India are considered Mongoloid, which is the same race as Chinese, Japanese and Korean people. Indians from the Western half of India are considered Caucasian. Caucasian is the same race as Europeans and Arabs.

Geographically speaking, India is located on the Asian continent, so to sum everything up, Indians are Asians.

indians are part of the eastern asian line

Indians, by Nationality are Asian just like if you're born in America/citizen, you're American regardless of ethnicity.

You are right about the Eastern half of (or the part that boarders with other Asian countries) to be Mongoloid, because over time, intermarriage happened and the result can be seen in the faces of the people. Pretty much everywhere else is Caucasian by race, though Asian by Nationality.

Race is defined by features, not skin color. And besides, the lighter skinned an Indian person is the more clearly you can see the Caucasian features. And quite a few Indians can pass for Southern Europeans (like Italians, Greeks...etc.)

No they do not. Whites want tan skin for the most part, but they do not want to be black. People often bring this up as some sort of argument or justification, but they couldn't be more wrong.

Of course we can't well deny this since most of us are from the English community. It's less about your race and more of where you grew up that decides how a race should be represented in art. There are also such things as bias on which aspect of the face you pay attention to depending on this.

Ask the Japanese people and what do you get? I haven't yet seen anyone prove that these styles look white to Japanese eyes. I feel this is the essential bit that basically everyone misses.

My ethnicity is Asian. I've been to Asian countries, grew up with other Asians, I know what is liked. The features of Europeans/white people are desirable, though many will not tell you this outright and many on here are sure to deny my comment though it is undeniably true.

Anyway, there are some examples of series (anime/manga) where the art is drawn much more realistically, and much more "Asian". Oddly enough, the art for these series (like for example, Flowers of Evil) got a lot of complaint. A lot. Seems like they don't like seering characters who look much closer to themselves. Talk about self-hatred.

Japan is called the island nation for a reason. The differences between the Japanese language/culture and other Asian languages/cultures are significant. There's a number of racist Japanese videos that say white people should not cosplay as anime characters due to lack of resemblance. The only thing I can say about the last one is: correlation does not confer causation. The uncanny valley helps make the anime creepier is something else I can claim just as easily.

All this denial talk makes me feel like a Christian is claiming that I believe in god but I deny it out of hand. Those Christians are obviously very poor at reading my thoughts as most non-psychologists are.

The only truth I find in all this about white anime characters lies in the origins of anime which are based off of Western animations and it kind of stuck around. It does not necessarily reflect contemporary Japanese thought today however.

you can find just about any racist thing about cosplay on the internet. even stuff from Caucasians

personally find it amusing when Asians or black whiten their skin, people say they're trying to be "White". But when White people darken their skin, the reason is "they're just following the trend".... or "dark skin is already a feature of certain White people like Mediterranean"...

How do you feel about it? I notice it a lot when watching older anime, and tend to just skip the series, or finish it, if it pops up later.

Whats your take on it?

Also my reason for bringing this up, is because CR starting airing Terrorformers, and it pretty much jas some of the racist characters I've seen in a modern anime, and have to drop it after getting hyped from the first episode

Manga images.(Spoilers)

I generally don't care. I acknowledge it and move on. Maybe if it was overwhelming I may drop it, but I was raised on watching reruns of Loony Toons. That has a lot of racism in it lol. Is racism repulsive? Yes, but it's also one of the silliest ideas in human history.

Then a better example would be the fact that there have been videos of asking Japanese people about what they think about western people thinking anime characters look white. All of them were pretty much weirded out. Some people who grew up in Japan even come to these threads sometimes to say that they think the anime characters looks Japanese to them.

Regardless,we might agree that it could come down to the individual level instead. People always argue about a singular definition for otaku in Japanese eyes. If it's anything I learned from Japanese people, you can't. They have their own opinions about it as well.

I'm probably coming in late but I'll give me short opinion. They have their own opinions, education, experiences, and culture. They have a standard of beauty like every country does. They may live in Japan but they travel, watch youtube videos, movies, series, documentaries, and are a first world country like us.

I've watched a lot of Japanese and Korean Dramas and they're very beautiful people. I also have a South Korean (beautiful) friend which told me that they hold beauty, self care, and respect to a very high standard. They rather go hungry if it means they can buy fashionable clothes and many of their clothes are far better quality than those of our malls. Like everyone, they just want to improve themselves and be more beautiful just like we strive to be more beautiful and they use their own standard of beauty. They do things we don't and we do things they don't, for ex. most people in JP and KR shave most of their hair off their bodies where we don't unless we get hair lazer removal. Like Mira from YT says that almost all teens get hair removal from their pits because it's really cheap compared to the west. They also shave their arms where most of us don't. Some shave their eyebrows and paint them on where it looks bad on us, it looks good on them. Most of us shave our privates where it's not common at all for them.

I've watched a lot of animes and I definitely think a great many look Asian, a great deal. They may add some western looking people but for the most part the main characters look Asian. And most Asians look like us aside from their eyes so I don't know why some want them to do a great transformation in their cartoons.

Most Japanese and Korean people are white, not Caucasian, but white. I went to the library to check out some mangas and the librarian, a dark young girl said "It's funny how Asian people give themselves big eyes in their cartoons," where I replied that some do but then some of our cartoons look nothing like us and not all Asian people have small eyes. In some animes and mangas, you can find characters with black hair and chinky eyes and others in the same anime with dark hair and big eyes. Then again, we're no one to tell another country how to do things in their country. A lot of countries do things we may find racist or wrong just like some countries may find what we do wrong or our interpretations incorrect but we are no one to tell them what to do and they are no one to tell us what to do.

Many people from Asian countries take care of their skin because they find lighter to be better and that's a fact (not all but many do). You're not going to find many Asian people outside tanning like we do. They use umbrellas when the sun is out where we use them when it's raining. And that is not wrong, just like it isn't wrong to find tanning to be better, it's your opinion and what makes you happy what matters. A lot of our darker celebrities like Tyra Banks admit to lightening themselves with makeup, pills, lighting, hair, makeup, surgery, etc, while others stay as they are and are ok with it. I don't think Asians want to look Western but want to better themselves like everyone else and have a standard of beauty. Also, their standard of White is Asian White, not Caucasian White. You don't see them putting on contacts in their daily life or dying their hair blond. I love their eyes, especially how it goes in on the edges and they all love to put natural looking eyeshadow that makes their eyes look even more bawling. Sharla in Japan explains how the Asian market sells for the Asian market, make up that makes them look good, caters to them like glittery makeup and clothing that looks good on them. For some reason they're not ok with showing cleavage but are ok with showing all their legs and some butty.

I think that some mangas or animes may come off as racist, I have yet encountered any but then again, we must realize that racism exists everywhere. I don't think any race is exempt from racists as everyone has the potential to be racist and even if you're not, some people within your race are, from young to old, people have experiences or make up their minds about others even when they're kids. There are many races on earth and many ethnicities, and problems as old as time.

This term, I might have used it in title, for lack of similar word to me, but still my pet peeve.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_%28human_classification%29

When you read how it came about, you see the folly in how past people classified people.

All true to an extent. Did you know it's a certain group of Asians so infatuated with the skin of darker people they bleach their skin to become darker?

Or how about black people who till this day still have a self hatred and don't even know it. All way back to people of darker skin were ugly so we have things like Lighter skinned "Black" people having preference. In African countries Black mothers would try and change the shape of a babies nose to look more "white", or how our natural hair is looked down upon, and girls are going out and spending thousands of dollars to get straight "white" hair, all habits passed down through the generations.

Just another example of of how European features seem to be the pinnacle and standard for Beauty in this world.

Lactis, I know that there's the Harajuko style and the Ganguro style which I think you're referring to. I know the Ganguro style is practically extinct, you don't see the girls dress up like that anymore. I know from multiple Japanese vloggers I watch on YT.

I watched a documentary on YT of how Indians from India prefer lighter skin and go to great lengths to achieve the look. Most of the TV personalities are lighter or have whiter features so they get more opportunities. But I still think they are free to do what they want. I still think their standard of beauty is Indian because you don't really see them dye their hair or wear blue contacts. Also on the side was a YT video link of how Africans from Africa were burning themselves with bleach to lighten their skin. Also hair removal burns dark skin but some people still did it.

It's sad how they mess with their kids like that. I think we all have an idea of beautiful and strive to fix something about ourselves but we shouldn't hurt ourselves to achieve it.

do you guys want to know the final truth, once and for all?

In most Anime's, the characters are Asian, but represented with Caucasian features, is this not obvious enough to you guys? i mean, you have your own eyes to see the Caucasian features making up many of the characters, and you can read and hear how it is implied they are most often Asian by their names and geographical location. this is not really something subjective.

god, you know, that sure was hard to figure out..i mean see and hear with my own eyes and ears -_-
