My friend's fiancée doesn't let him watch anime or play video games.
Would you date someone that openly dislikes anime like her?
Last year there was also a woman in Japan who threw away her husband's anime collection.

Why is he marrying someone who doesn't let him do the things he enjoys?

That just sounds unfair, and really really nasty. If I were them I wouldn't be dating them, a real partner would learn to get along with them and accept their hobbies, not force them out in order to get more attention.

No way would I get along with a person that didn't at least accept the fact that I watch anime. I don't expect them to understand it or embrace it but at least let me do it.

This is a tough question.

On the one hand, I like so many other things than anime and manga, so there has to be some common interest in there somewhere. But the thing is, if your significant other hates your interests that much, you're not compatible.

Last girl I met really just hated Japan in general. The only positive thing she ever said about it was Fast and Furious was set there once, but even then she hated that one...

I'd rather be alone than be with someone who dictated what my hobbies can or can't be. That's a deal breaker no matter how hot the girl is

The tolerance factor would play a deciding role in if I'd like them. They don't have to like it but they can't have an issue with me liking it...

More or less what everyone else said. I don't care if they don't like it, but if they'd try to stop me from doing something I enjoy, well, fuck them.

If they don't like it, that's fine. But if they force me to stop or something, they can fuck off.

I wouldn't marry her lol.
Why would he marry someone who doesn't accept all aspects of him/her? That news story is also pretty saddening. Everyone should be allowed to have a hobby that allows a slight bit of escapism, which is especially necessary for the average Japanese working man, whose daily work equates to about a week of a westerners.

Out of the 10 relationships i have been in, only one of them watched anime, and she was a psychopath.

I dont care if someone doesn't share my hobbies, as-long as they accept them and are willing to open their mind to trying them with me.

If someone tries to dictate my life to the point of forcing me to abandon my hobby for them, then they are not worth my time. I am not that desperate lol.

I have pretty high standards for people though :P; so i tend to avoid anyone who is close minded.

to quote a certain character from "Tonari No Kaibutsu-kun" "as long as you enjoy it, I'm happy with doing it"
