I'm using Windows 8 and it's literal garbage. I SERIOUSLY hope Windows 10 comes soon.

Windows 8 is just...ugh. Windows 7 ftw. Hope 10 is better when it comes out.

Windows 7 is way better but Windows 8 is underrated. Everyone hates it when it's not even that bad. I've been using it for just over a year and its just like using windows 7. Except with touch screen and having the search menu by swiping from the right side. I never even use metro. I forget its even there. As soon as I log on I click my desktop and basically barely go on the metro screen. But win 10 looks cool I will admit.

If anyone wants to ditch their old OS and get Win10, it's totally free to get the Technical Preview, and it works really well. I'm slowly getting used to the system since I can't go back to win7 now.

Wait... people can't figure out Windows 8?

I guess being a technical person makes my life easier... Win 8 was probably easier to figure out than my phone.

I honestly didn't find 8 to be bad at all, and when I used Windows I chose 8 every time. I could customize a ton of things, and rarely used "Apps" or fullscreen things. In fact really the "Settings App" was the only thing I used that was an "App" and fullscreen.

But glad to see that M$ hasn't fallen off the earth yet, so that's nice.

Does 10 keep the Metro look? I would assume so since they have kind of gone all in on it with their phones and all.

I would also assume they are releasing a new DirectX and IE with this release?

The Metro minimalist look is still a thing, but metro itself is not as intrusive as it used to be. DirectX 12.1 was released a few months ago with the release of the Xbox One. Not sure what IE they have, I don't really care either.

...But when the thing expires it's not "free" anymore.

Here's my question

Why didn't M$ just make THAT instead of Windows 8? Thanks to the jokers who pushed win8 onto all the OEMs they dragged the entire PC industry down. Thanks fer nothin', M$.

I'm an engineering designer and I found Win8 a PITA, while Win8.1 a bit less so.

Microsoft took a really "in your face" approach to the new start menu. I mean, it's literally in-your-face as in it covers the entire screen. There are some occasions where you do need to have visibility to the rest of the desktop when accessing the start menu. For example, some directions on the web (you know, those tech advice sites) requires you to access something deep in the configurations (e.g. control panel, or device manager, etc) and you can't do that with the whole darn thing covering up the screen and you trying to read that instruction website at the same time. Of course, Win8.1 kind of remedied this somewhat with the ability to dock some of those things to the side of the screen while being able to have a browser open at the same time. Win10 deals with this by having pretty much all of the desktop visible once again... which was what they were supposed to do with win8 in the first place!

Oh, another annoyance is whenever a new app is installed they make you Easter Egg hunt through that big mess of icons just to pin it back to the start menu. Yes I know you can arrange it by date installed but why even make me jump through extra hoops everywhere in the OS just to promote this schizophrenic UI? (Can't make up its darn mind whether it's touch or keyboard/mice...) Win10 has desktop mode, which of course is (wait did I say this before?) what they should have done with Win8 in the first place

It's not just "figuring stuff out"- It's haphazard and annoying-as-heck UI design

Faster than 7, unchanged from Win8. Takes me about half as much time to boot.

True that it won't be free once the consumer version comes out, but that's why you keep a backup OS, or you just get it in slightly less legal ways.

take into account that windows 8 was never meant to be used on desktops or laptops without a touch screen. it was envisioned for a tablet. and on a tablet it works great
