Me too, actually. I mean, yeah I could tell where they censored it, but I still am looking forward to the story/characters. I haven't read the manga, but full-on blood/violence/gore isn't a requirement for me to enjoy a show. Yeah, I do love me some violent action, but it's not a necessity.

Alas, NY is too far away...otherwise I would love to attend the industry panels.

It's not so much that the violence/gore is a requirement, as it is that the show already has the violence and gore, regardless of our opinions on the matter. Because the gore is so prevalent in the show, the censorship gets to the point where it's distracting. It breaks any sense of immersion that the viewer may have.

The full screen censoring in Terraformars really is to the point where we're paying for 24 minutes of video, and getting 19 minutes of video plus 5 minutes of audio. If the first episode isn't some kind of fluke, I'll have to just plug my ears and say LALALALA whenever I see my friends for the next few months until I can get access to the BD.

I feel like one of the only people who actually watches anime for the plot.

I get that they want to make money -- that's the main reason most (if not all) anime are made. But this...

...is NOT giving me any incentive whatsoever to spend money on overpriced blu-rays. It doesn't even give me an incentive to keep watching the series -- a series I was actually eagerly looking forward to before I saw how badly censored it was.

Terra Formars is a VERY violent manga. It is basically a running series of violent death scenes for both humans and roaches. If the anime follows the manga -- and so far I see no reason why it wouldn't -- then it will be full of limbs being torn from their sockets, heads being yanked off, and bodies being ripped in half.

And if that full-screen black gradient is what we can expect for all of that, then the only thing it serves to advertise is the pirated distribution of the uncensored episodes -- which isn't gonna make the show ANY money.

And yeah, the subtitle on that screenshot is incredibly ironic. =P

We PAY for content not blacked out screens only to have the uncensored version be shown at a con with NO WORD on when or even IF we'll be getting the uncensored version on the site. The bottom line of this is that CrunchyRoll HAS the uncensored version, they should be posting it up HERE for the PAID MEMBERS instead of doing this publicity stunt with showing it at a con or at the very least they should give us some sort of notice that they will actually be posting the uncensored version up for the PAID MEMBERS.

This is the first time I've EVER been disappointed with CrunchyRoll.

We do not have access to the uncensored version of the anime. The screening is being provided by Warner Japan, and they are the ones with the actual uncensored video.

We are streaming exactly what is available to everyone else around the world until the Blu-Ray comes out. Hopefully the showing at NYCC will be enough of a success to show that audiences prefer an uncensored version.

I forgot an "IF" in my original post, where the arrows are...

Here's hoping the NYCC showing goes well then.

Some people have already mentioned and I'll doubly agree that I'd pay a lot more for my subscription if they could acquire uncensored versions of every show. Everyone at NYCC needs to make a big fuss over it with Warner Japan so that they understand that what they are doing now in the states will *not* get them extra sales for the BD, and what will give them sales would be to honor our request.

I'd feel a lot more obligated to support their interests via buying their product if they would support our interests as well.

They aren't censoring it, it's the people who are making the show. All CR is doing is co-hosting with them to show the uncensored version during NYCC.

lugiamania, do you know if AT-X is airing Terra Formars and, if so, if they are getting the uncensored version for their broadcast? If they are, I think it would be a better deal for CR to negotiate to air that as well, perhaps with a 3-7 day delay to give AT-X a favorable position (and hopefully to also keep the price for it from being silly high)... as it is now, you're not exactly getting your money's worth imho =( Even if they're not, personally, I'd rather wait a week to see a video where I can actually tell what is happening than sit through more of that overly obtrusive black screen overkill.

Or at least politely suggest to the production company to tone down the censor bar to something that doesn't fill over half the screen. Tons of anime are censored every season, so it's not like they have no idea how to do it in a discrete and viewable manner =P

If something as fluffy as Samurai Girls/Bride can do censorship in a cute and artsy style that actually blends in unobtrusively (they used black ink splots and splatters that matched the art style used throughout the series) then there's no reason (other than sheer laziness) why over three quarters of the screen should be lost every time they want to block out a random spot in Terra Formars. =/

Terraformars is not available on AT-X. (You can check on-air schedules at the Japanese website: http://terraformars.tv/onair/index.html) We always let our publishers know how their shows are being received, and we have let them know of the problem with the censoring.

It is my hope that we will be allowed the uncensored version, but of course if and when that happens we don't know.
