So as a treat for myself for my upcoming highschool graduation I've decided to buy a pass for Anime Con next year in LA.
Does anybody have a guide or any suggestions for me to check out first? I know from what I heard its pretty crowded and big so I don't wanna be the one guy lost walking back and forth. Thankserinos

P.S. I'll be cosplaying as Gray Fullbuster a.k.a the asian with gainz... hopefully in the next few months ill be cut and lean enough #walkingaroundhalfnaked

Sure, as a convention veteran (and organizer myself) I can give you a few pointers on how to survive your first convention.

- Make a plan!
If anything, there should be a lot to do, too much to see everything. Get to know the program in advance and try to make a pre-selecton of events that you definitely want to attend from what the convention has published on the website.
That way you also know which events may carry extra costs on top of the entrance fee, or are 18+ events.

- Eat and drink plenty!
An anime convention is exciting! And one of the things that happens a lot is that people that pass out because they want to do too much and don't take care of themselves.
You easily lose 2/3 liters of water a day at a convention, make sure you drink enough to compensate for it, not doing so could net you about half an hour with the nice people providing first aid.

- Sleep!
As above, like not eating and drinking enough, not getting enough sleep will make you pass out.

- Wear comfortable shoes!
At an average convention you will be walking several miles per day, I am not joking, at an average convention I easily walk 10 to 15 miles per day.
Make sure you wear shoes on which you can do that, blisters aren't cool and will also net you some quality time with the awesome guys at the first aid booth.

- Otaku Funk, it is real!

Clean yourself! On plenty of conventions people don't and the smell is terrible, especially if you're going multiple days, shower at least once a day!
If you happen to sweat a lot, like me, bring a pack of baby wipes! They wipe away the sweat instead of "masking" it and in my opinion they have a very pleasant smell.
None the less; Shower!
(And as a personal piece of opinion, Axe is not a good brand of deodorant.)

- You are among people with the same interest.
If you are going alone and are looking for company at a convention, keep in mind that almost everyone there has the same interest; Anime!
Looking for a conversational partner should not be very hard, even for the more introvert personalities.

- Most importantly!
Have fun!

Wear something that you can take off easily. It can EASILY get very hot inside.

edit: I do not recommend fun.

I do recommend having a blast!

Make sure you plan out the cost and everything! Like how much the entrance fee is, parking, hotel cost if any, etc.

I also suggest setting yourself a limit for how much you should spend on merchandise so you don't over spend!

If you're at a con for one day, make sure to bring a bag so you can easily carry everything you buy! You can always set the bag down or have a friend hold it if someone wants a photo.

Like everyone else said, have as much fun as possible so you don't end up posting in the forums about your con regrets!!!

From experience, you should get a day-pass and pick out the day that has the most entertaining events for your interests. Every convention I attend I usually have walked the floor and checked out the booths within and hour or two, and if you aren't interested in panels there isn't that much else to do. Have fun!
